  • The worst night I have ever had!

I should not have believed the review... The food was very ordinary and salty. Typical bad home made cooking... The price is redicoulous. The miselable beef strouganouff cost more than $32!!! The place is not clean and the deco is very bad taste. The radio is always on with high volume. The service was the worst. The woman there did not know how to use the credit card machine propery and I had patiently waited for more than 40 minutes for her to try the card to go through. At the end, she became inpatient and called a police since she thought that I would not pay!!! My credit card was perfectly all right as I confirmed later. What kind of evil place? HIghly recommend not to go.

  • A review led us to this gem of a restaurant. The meal we had prepared by owner Madame Jarmila will be one we remember and discuss for years to come. The food was exquisitely prepared. We started with Czech Style Potato Pancakes which were delicate and light and full of flavor. For entrees we had Wiener Schnitzel and Pork Tenderloin Medallions in a basil mustard sauce. The remembrance is making my mouth water. For dessert we had simply the best crepes we have ever experienced. The Red Château is located just outside the tourist district in an 1850’s era home. Do not be put off by the local and the scale. This is a place that you do not want to be packed with folks. You will want all the care that Madame will give to your food and you will appreciate her discreet service. This is the type of dining experience that will make you travel to a distant city just for a meal.

  • When I read the review of The Red Chateau the first thing that came to my mind was Café de la Paix in Quebec City.
The exterior and the appearance is not that of Café de la Paix, but, don’t let that fool you. The Red Chateau has a charm of its own and viva la differance.
My companion has taken up the wonderful challenge of being a Vegan and so far finding a location were me the meager carnivore and very charming Vegan can both be satisfied has offered a true challenge, one that the hostess of this restaurant was more than happy to embrace.
The world is truly void of restaurants for Vegans and actually trying to find one that does more than just say they are Vegan has been quite impossible. This state of affairs invariably leaves us in the position of trying to concoct our own assortment of vegetables from the selection of those described on the menu. I am not sure why the service staff can’t seem to figure out what we are doing and why they invariably end up saying that it is quite impossible to combine vegetables from one dish with those of another dish, but it would appear that innovation is dead in most restaurants.
Much to our delight, this evening our hostess was more than happy to work with us to come up with a great selection for my better half and I.
As soon as we saw the vibrant colour to the vegetables we knew that we were not going to be eating the standard salads with the brown edged limp lettuce and soggy tomatoes. All of the ingredients were crisp and the flavours seemed to explode in our mouths.
My first thought was to try a mouthful of the salad just to see how fresh the flavours were before putting on some dressing from the bottle that had been placed on the table. The taste was so captivating that I never did get around to trying the dressing. My far more knowledgably partner seemed to completely agree with my idea of simply enjoying the wonderful organic tastes without anything on them.
The entrée was simply more of the same excellent fresh flavours in the vegetable medley and the roast potatoes were seasoned to perfection.
Being a European restaurant boasting of it is schnitzel, I decided to have this with a smaller version of the same vegetable medley and potatoes. The schnitzel was exactly what it is supposed to be, thin, crispy and full of flavour.
A bowl of fresh fruit and an herbal tea finished off one the better meals that we have had since the beginning of our Vegan journey. Scratch that, one of the better meals we have had period.
Obviously the hostess of The Red Chateau is still learning about vegetarian and vegan fair. Over and above the excellent organic foods that she is serving what makes this restaurant special is her willingness to work with her clientele to come up with dishes that will satisfy their tastes rather than holding onto a rigid format that the clients have to bend to.
If great food, a charming atmosphere and unheard of flexibility by the management sounds interesting to you, then you should try The Red Chateau.

  • My husband and I spent three nights in Niagara Falls for my birthday. Two of those nights, we dined at the Red Chateau! After reading review after review on other sights that stated that Niagara Falls is a "gastronomic wasteland", I finally came across a site that reviewed the Red Chateau postively, and we decided to give it a go.

Our first night there, we were the only couple in the restaurant - which made us nervous UNTIL the first of the food arrived! The sourdough garlic bread is NOT to be missed. On a cold night like it was when we went, the Elixir of Love warmed us instantly - it is a lovely spiced mulled red wine concoction. My husband had the Goulash soup for a started, I tried the shrimp crepe. Both were simply divine! Our entrees that night were the Tirol Schnitzel for him, and the Chateua Rogue (a pork dish) with Czech Dumplings for me. Both dishes were simply amazing! We barely had room for desserts, but when Jarmila, the hostess, waitress, bartender, chef, offered homemade grape ice cream, neither of us could refuse! We split a portion of the ice cream, as well as splitting a peach and rum crepe. No matter how full you are, DO NOT skip dessert!!

We simply had to return to the Red Chateau on our third and last night in Niagara! Again, the restaurant was empty, but we knew what awaited us! We again ordered the Elixir of Love, and for starters tried the Drowned Sausage and this time I went for the Goulash soup. For mains, he had the Beef Stroganoff and I had the Chicken Medallions with Goat Feta Cheese. We again gave in to the temptation of grape ice cream, and split a Chocolate Syrup crepe. Simply divine!!

I love to cook at home - and my highest compliment to Jarmila is that she presents the quality of food I would cook for myself and my husband. The treat, however, is that I did not have to lift a finger! Each dish, while simply presented, was delightful, and tasty. All were made to order with fresh ingredients and obvious passion from a well trained chef.

My only regret is that we do not hail from the Niagara Falls area and therefore will not be returning to the Red Chateau again soon. Do not be put off by the area it is located in - it is not glitzy like Clifton Hills, but it is safe after dark.

The Red Chateau is a wonderful choice for a truly fine dining experience; a needed retreat from the fast food mecha that is Niagara Falls. If you enjoy excellent food, or if you are ready to take a break from the chain restaurants, give the Red Chateau a chance...you will not be disappointed!!

  • It was my wife's Birthday dinner, the food was wonderful, candle light romantic atmosphere and attentive service.
You feel really welcome. There is plenty of free parking across the street and parking meters are along the street in front of the restaurant. We will be back!

  • I feel the need to write a quick review as to encourage business to this place. If you are looking for a place that is set away from the overcrowded tourist area of Niagara Falls and that has amazing Eastern European food including homegrown vegetables, this is the place for you. We were a bit unsure about this place considering its setting is not in the best area of town, but we are SO glad that we went here. We were the only ones in the restaurant (a shame because the food is so much better than the chains in town). We received personalized service by the owner (the hostess, waitress, and chef all in one). We started with the garlic bread due to another review on the website. It was the best we have ever had. It is definitely different than any other garlic bread we have ever had. What a pleasant surprise! My husband ordered the rabbit, and I had the goat cheese chicken. Both were spectacular. THat evening she made potatos for the sides. They were cut up and crispy, and I have no idea what she did to them, but the potatoes melted in my mouth. We then ended our meal with blueberry ice cream that she made fresh in the restaurant using blueberries from her garden. AMAZING! She needs to market that.
Do know that there is not a parking lot near this place and it is in a not-so-great area of town. I would go here earlier in the evening when it is still light out. Also, the prices are a bit steep. However, if you don't go to this place, you will be missing out on what will be your most memorable (in a positive way) meal in Niagara Falls.

  • The owner was nice and attentive, but based on reading all the great reviews here, we thought we would give it a try and love it. The food was good, but for the price, the portions were a joke! $25 for my entree, and i had 4 extremely small "medallions", not to mention the 1 tiny chunk of blue cheese that was supposed to accompany the meal. Coq au vin was good, but very very small (based on meat to bone ratio).
When we ordered the wine, the first 2 choices were not available, and after ordering the meal, was told there were no onions for the entree. no onions?? how can a kitchen have no onions?! although i was offered green peppers as a substitute. I should have been able to tell, an empty restaurant on a friday speaks volumes. Will not be back.

  • We were amazed that we had the resturant to ourselves, while the rest of Niagara Falls tourist were in the tourist trap places. It was a perfect evening and Jamila was a doll. The food was truely European and tastey. Everything was a la cart, which made it a little pricey, but worth every bite. Please try this the next time you go to the area--we will

  • My wife and I visited Niagara Falls, CA to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. After researching all of the tourist-oriented restaurants for our special dinner, we decided upon the Red Chateau … and we were extremely happy that we did. The gourmet restaurant is authentic, quaint, and romantic. Our hostess and chef, Jarmila, was not only very personable, but an exquisite Chef! It turns out that she not only attended culinary school in Europe, but also grows much of the organic fare right on the premises. The dinner was reasonably priced, and parking was free. All in all, it was a wonderful evening, and we couldn’t have made a better choice.

  • Authentic and Unique in Niagara Falls!
My choice for a restaurent where I can feel comfortable, and that anything I eat will be divine and appreciated.
As such, my salad, quite unique blend, was deliciously awesome, with mulberry dressing, very healthy and appetizing.
My crepe with ricotta cheese, raisins, and chocolate syrup was divine decadence, I was raised with French crepes and I will return weekly to this charming restaurent for my crepe-fix. My coffee, was superb as well, and all was served with a special touch of beautiful dishes, perfect and adorable ambiance, and the Chef, an Angel no less, was so kind, accommodating, and very knowledgeable of Niagara Falls and French and European cuisine.
In fact, I have already planned to invite my family and friends from Northern Ontario and Europe to come and celebrate all the special occasions we will be celebrating this summer.
I would actually baptise the Red Chateau, as The Rare Piece of Heaven, minutes away from the World-Famous Falls !
Whether I was stressed, happy or tired, this special place brought so much comfort to me, and helped me to put my Niagara Falls experience into perspective, one of being special, unique, and authentic.
A very healthy atmosphere although minutes away from the Falls, one can still feel how divine this place is just like the Falls.
The food was delicious, divine, healthy, and even with a big meal I could still go for a walk to see the sunset at the Falls.
I just can't wait to return and taste every divine dish on the Chef's menu and to make the Red Chateau, my special place to bring friends and family and to celebrate every occasion !
Thanks Again, very much appreciated, you made my weekend that much more special !
