  • We recently moved into the Niagara region and have been searching out good restaurants. A local farm owner suggested that the best pizza in the area could be found here. So my wife and I and another couple visiting from Ottawa dined there last night (Sunday, September 27th, 2009). The atmosphere was terrific and the service as well. Our appetizers were very delicious. I had a (special for that evening) Sweet Potato and Butternut Squash soup which had a very unique and wonderful flavour. The pizzas were outstanding. We had three different pizzas between the four of us and tasted each other’s pizzas and the verdict was unanimous … the pizzas were all as good as any we have ever had. The price range we flagged does not include wine. We had two bottles of a wonderful Malevoir Pinot Gris ($39/bottle) which brought the dinner for four to about $200. As new citizens in this area, we will definitely be back again.

  • Order: Caeser Salad, Squash/Sweet Potato Soup, Baby Arugula Salad, John Denver Pizza, Jerry Garcia Pizza; Jimi Hendrix Pizza

  • Was very impressed with the Old Winery Restaurant. Really liked the atmosphere and the meal was unbelievable! I was with a large group and highly recommend the gnocci, calamari, bruschetta bread, crab cakes, jerry garcia pizza & beef serloin (We picked off eachothers plates a little, everything looked so good!)

I loved my Atlantic Salmon (Catch of the day) but when I come back I am definatly getting the Beef Serloin !!!

My only issue was that the menu didn't state anything about "auto-gratuity" and our server didn't inform us that they had done that. I noticed the addition, but 6 of the 8 did not, and significantly over tipped (20% tip on top of the already charged 15%). Even though our waiter was very good, you should ALWAYS tell your tables when you are adding things to their bill, ESPECIALLY if it is not stated anywhere in the restaurant or on the menu. Be sure to check your bills for this if you go there.

  • Order: Niagara College Pinot Noir, Calamari, Catch of the Day (Atlantic Salmon)

  • What a fantastic restaurant. We lucked out and hit their tapas night. We had a caesar salad and a winter greens salad with roasted pears and blue cheese. Next we each had a tasty pizza - on flatbread - that was beyond description. To top it off we each had a pasta dish that in itself was sublime. I wish we lived closer so we could go more often. I look forward to our next visit.

  • My dining experience was great. The service was friendly and efficient. I had the opportunity to try a bottle of the Deans List Sauvignon Blanc. The wine list has a wide variety of Niagara wines and if you are like me, it provided an opportunity to start trying the regions offerings.

The food was incredible especially for its price point. I will definitely be pushing to go to Old Winery again next time we are in town.

  • We are locals and we have been gouged. The food was substandard. They did not offer anything to rectify the situation. The wives split a pizza & a salad after one meal was returned as unedible. This bill came to $200. for 4 people and was completely over-priced. The waitress recommended that we go to another restaurant because she believed we were still hungry.

  • From the beginning our server, Rebecca, appeared to have a chip on her shoulder. She was rude and treated us as though we were an imposition. If it was not for the diligent bussing staff I would not have a drink in front of me. After finishing our dessert we waited over ten minutes for her to present the bill and then another 10 minutes to pay; although the wait would have been that much longer had we not approached her at the service bar to process our payment. I should also add that this was the tail end of lunch and we were one of two tables still remaining. I would understand and be sympathetic had she been busy, but she clearly was not.

I wish that that was all. But it is not the worst of it. Before we left, my mother and I went to use the restroom. There was no soap – even though we told her at the beginning of the meal that both soap dispensers were empty. I approached her at the bar and asked her to get me some soap. Instead of apologizing for not doing this sooner she said, “…oh I forgot, it’s not that easy.” To which I replied, “…well that is why we let you know over an hour ago that is was out.” Again the busser came to the rescue and gave us the hand soap from behind the bar. As I was walking back to the restroom she shouted after me, “You’re nasty.” She shouted this several times. Granted I may have been short with her, considering our experience thus far. But I was not aggressive, rude or abusive. A request for soap does not warrant such comments. In all my years as a server and diner, I have never been treated with such disrespect.

I have already told several people about this experience and unfortunately they too have had awful experiences with the service at The Old Winery Restaurant. I have also filed a complaint with Public Health as not having hand soap is an infraction of Health and Safety. Washing your hands is the number one way to prevent illness and food borne infections. I only hope that the staff had soap in their restrooms.

p.s. I only chose "1" to rate the service because zero was not an option!

  • they comp'd all the food on the bill. We were a party of six, the restaurant had been open for a month or two. Thought they would have gotten all the 'kinks' out, we were wrong. First of all, parking was ridiculous...cars were parked on Hwy 55 and people were running across the hwy to get to the restaurant. The hostess was a little snotty but it is Tony Deluca so we get the attitude. The place was packed! The vibe was good and we were definatly hungry and anxious. It took 30 minutes to get our drink order taken and another 15 mins to get them. Our table was across the bar so we can see our drinks just sitting there, adding to our frustration. We must of looked like a bunch of birds with everyone straining thier necks to see where our server was. We were very tempted to get the drinks ourselves. Water refill request was acknowledged but not accomodated. Apps came out quickly and the pizza (as an appy) was delicious. Timing for the main course was horrible. Two diners of the group received their meal when the rest had almost finished. Pasta with beef tenderloin tips consisted of grisly meat, moslty fat. "Sauce" tasted like Au jus. Dinner portion sizes were ok. As we looked around the room, we could tell that our table was not the only one that was having a bad experience. The speghetti with bolongese was honestly akin to chefboyardee. As Shelly, (manager) made her rounds, we had to explain our night to her. They ended up comping our meals. We were there for three hours, afterwards we went to The Angel Inn for our 2nd dinner.
