  • I like this restaurant quite a bit and visit it when in Niagara-On-The-Lake (NOTL). If you are looking for casual or family style dining without the NOTL prices, this is the place to visit. The décor is an outstanding collection of Rooster representation which lends itself well to a homey feel. Booths and tables are available. All of the staff I've met are friendly and welcoming. The food is fairly good and I have heard local people there which is a good sign. If I were to make recommendations it would be to incorporate items from the Health Check program on the menu, especially since many visitors/residents of NOTL are middle aged or seniors and have health concerns(for more info. google Heart & Stroke health check program) I would like to see grilled fish as an option on the menu instead of only battered. Finally, a welcome change would be to incorporate the fresh tomatoes, peaches and produce that is so abundant in NOTL during the summer months rather than supermarket imports or hothouse produce. The difference is substantial in taste. The restaurant is handicapped accessible, licensed with Niagara wines available and there is nicely landscaped patio out front for dining outdoors. The restaurant has its own free parking, unlike many in NOTL and can accommodate larger groups with notice. It is not right on the main street of NOTL, but very much within the historic town. It is open 7 days a week for all meals, dine in or take out.

  • I like this restaurant and personally feel it has improved since the original owner was at the helm upon reading the previous review. The hostess/owner is very much a people person that was much needed at the restaurant and her husband does an excellent job preparing the food. My only comments would be that I would like to see some more items that are nutritious (healthy balanced meals) on the menu. This does not mean organic or vegetarian. It means that vegetables are included (or an option) instead of fries/toast. Grilled Fish would be preferable to battered and substituting out the the fries for salad would also be nice. It would not cost more to do this, and seniors, and those who dine out frequently and must watch their weight for health etc would welcome that change. I have had no problems with any wait staff. Hours have improved.

  • My family has visited Niagara on the Lake several times and one of our favourites has always been the Little Red Rooster. The atmosphere is relaxed and always remind us of our favourtie restaurant back home. The food is excellent and staff is friendly. For what its worth we dont even have to pay an outrageous amount to park. ITS FREE!!! That almost never happens. We always leave feeling like a regular and completely satisfied. By far the best and most reasonable place in that town.

  • Since the new owners took over, the place has gone downhill
Service is very slow, wait staff hide in the kitchen instead of being on the floor with the customers.
Poached eggs came out like rubber.
The second time we went we were left waiting for service. After 20 minutes we got up and left.

  • Order: breakfast

I know the restaurant and disagree. Yours is one opinion, but the price range has been exaggerated. Also, I see your party of five all ordered poached eggs? Hmm...you have reviewed no other restaurants either. Your review sounds like sour grapes.

  • Summer hours are acceptable; winter hours here are poor. The restaurant is cute with the rooster themes and it is kept quite clean. Most staff seems charismatic/friendly. The food is good, but there could be some improvements with the Eggplant parmesan. It is too much pasta!!! It would also be nice if the restaurant would offer "grilled" fish instead of battered. The grilled is healthier and this is a concern for many people. Incorporate a few more healthy meals. Otherwise, I recommend the restaurant :-)

@ chevyshovel: While authentic eggplant parmesan may not have pasta, I like the addition of it, just less of it.

  • I live in Toronto and visit friends in NOTL (Niagara on the Lake).

One of the best parts of an early AM departure from Toronto is going for breakfast at the Red Rooster.

By the way, its name comes from the traditional red rooster of Portugal, of which there are many (wooden and clay ones) on display.

The breakfast is excellent. Usually we have an omelets with fresh rye toast, coffee and orange juice. The best omelet is the "TMF" which contains tomato, mozzarella and feta cheese. It literally melts in your mouth and is really tasty. Every other tem I have tried for breakfast is good but the mozzarella and feta cheese together are outstanding.

I have also been to the RR for lunch and dinner and it is quick, friendly and very good food. The last time I was there I had a burger that was excellent with big beefsteak tomato slices, crisp fries and salad.

It is right beside Tim Horton's and the place is full with locals who don't want to go to the Prince of Wales or the Queen's Landing for a meal out, and want quality and consistency.

The guests of the Best Western across the street, the Colonel Butler Inn, are very fortunate as they get a coupon for their breakfast at the Red Rooster.

The service is very friendly and the service is quick. If the Red Rooster was located in Toronto in the downtown core they would do very well for business breakfasts.

  • Order: orange juice, rye toast, omelet (tomato, mushroom and feta cheese)

  • We recently moved to town and we were hoping this would be our everyday place we could drop in and have a quick meal. It is not too quick. Service is friendly but slow and the food is adequate at best.

  • This is by far the best place for service. Anyone can cook eggs, but my husband & I continue to go to the Red Rooster for the great service. Everyone from the waitress to the bus person is always cheerful & ready to get you anything! Sorry to hear about the E. coli problem, but that won't stop me from returning.

  • Order: Mexican omlette & bacon & eggs

The restaurant is under new ownership since the unfortunate incident with E-Coli so many years ago. It is very clean, food is fresh, and I've had no problem with any meals eaten there.
