  • We read the review and decided to give it a try for omakase. Unfortunately, we are really disappointed. The service is well below average. They are under-staffed and the chef has this attitude that can totally ruin your dinner mood. We asked him a question about the menu and he embarrased us as if we had never had omakase before. We have tried omakase at a number of other places and this one is disappointing. Their fish is fresh but the diversity is limited. Our steamed eggs were overcooked and the dessert was only a red-bean ice-cream that you can get from any japanese restaurant. We can't see the passion that other reviewers mentioned.

  • Solo Sushi-Ya sounds like just another Chinese/Korean owned Japanese Restaurant. But don't let the name fool you, this is a great Japanese Restaurant.

My wife and I go there on special occasions and we are always very pleased. The Chef is passionate about what he does and it shows; in presentation and taste.

I love ordering Omekase as you never know what you are going to get and I like that. I have complete faith in the Chef and he has never dissapointed.

The place is a little expensive, but worth it.

  • Order: Omekase

  • I read Ami Pataki's review in the Star and decided to try it out. Overall, this restaurant has the best sushi that I have ever tasted in Toronto. I've tried Zen, Hiro sushi, Cafe Michi, Japango and others before. It is almost as good as the sushi that I tasted in a restaurant next to the fish market in Tokyo, Japan. I sat next to the chef and he is a very nice person to talk to. I think that $50 would translate to easily $80 in Toronto so we didn't mind the 30 minute drive. I loved all the dishes except for the fried fish that was just good. Also, the dessert was ginger ice cream with a blackberry which was a bit of a let down compared to the rest of the meal which was excellent! Highly recommended.

  • Order: $50 Omakase (chef menu)

  • Even for folk who have travelled widely, including in Japan, this restaurant is one of the very best. You have a chef (and owner) who is a true artist and you can safely place yourself in his hands (omekaze) in fact you will quickly learn that you had better! A character, as somebody else remarked, a man of passion and strong likes and dislikes. Be polite, please don't be loud, and you will love this place!!

  • Order: I have been there a dozen times; generally I have ordered a la carte sushi but also 'omekaze'

  • UNBELIEVABLE!!! Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, LA, Seattle, Miami, Chicago... By far the best sushi I have ever had EVER in North America! The freshest fish combined with the most complex and exquisite flavors. An absolute delight. Even the soy-sauce is home brewed by the chef. The chef is not only a true artist but real character sure to entertain while sharing his works of culinary art.

  • Order: Assorted sushi, based on chef's suggestions.
