I have written a few reviews before but after reading the latest reviews about my beloved Mongolian Village I had to respond.
This restaurant is amazing. You select what you want to eat, it's fresh, laid out nicely, and then it gets cooked in front of you.
IF you don't like what you ordered, then who's fault is it? ... hmm your fault!
The staff is friendly and remember you. GO FIGURE! What a change of pace from the average .. "Chain Restaurant".
I will admit there have been times when my meal is not perfect, but again .. I MADE IT!
I go to this restaurant for every special occassion and have turned many friends and family members in to die hard Mongoli fans!
Keep up the good work to everyone who works there!

This is the first - and probably my last - restaurant review. I'm generally an upbeat, easy-going individual but my experience last night at the Mongolian Village in Bells Corners has turned me into Atila the Hun!
The unfriendly attitude, indifference and outright rudeness of the Manager and serving staff quickly put me into a marauding horde mood. The food was uninspired and poor value; the atmosphere non-existent and customer service the worst I've experienced in Ottawa.
The only bright spot in an otherwise nasty evening was the excellent company of pals and friendly young man who wiped down our table.
My advice - BYPASS THIS VILLAGE.

The idea that you pick your own items, weight it and according to how much it weighs , you pay. The Chef then take your plate and cook it to perfection.
They offer complementary soup.
The food is most often great, it depends highly on the Chef as they're the one preparing the plate. As someone else said in here, make sure you add good portion of sauce to your plate or it won't taste that great.
The service is generally acceptable. I had on many occassions go after the waitress to fill water or answer a question. But for first timers, the server will explain how you can pick your food.

I was very surprised the first time I ever went to Mongolian, but now I can't stop going. I find the food selection just right and the ability to be able to pick what I want and how much is just perfect. You pay for what you get, but price is fairly reasonable for what you are eating.
80% of the time I do take out which then the value is compeltely worth it because I can make up to 2-3 meals out of my take out food.
One thing to be aware of is foods are cooked in very close quarters so sometimes you may get a few pieces of something you never asked for, but only on one occassion have the mixed my order up and the manager responded very quickly, gave me a gift certificate for the trouble. - Order: Broccoli, carrots, chow mein noodles, beef, lemon sauce, teriyaki sauce

The food is as good as you want it to be. There are recipes surrounding the buffet that allow you to choose how hot or flavourful you want your dish. I have been many times and will continue to go as the atmosphere is quaint and the price is definitely reasonable. A definite must for a first date.

be sure to get lots of sauces on your food because if you don't, it tastes dry and lame. But overall, it's a pretty good spot.

Have been here many times. The services is fantastic and that's what keeps me coming back... not to mention the food. My meals have been as low as $6.00 and as high as $12 depending on how much I add to my bowl. The food is great, and the sauces range in "HEAT". Overall, I think this establishment is a gem.!

There is very little special about this restaurant, other than you get to select your own ingredients, sauces and toppings for your stir fry. Your meal will be based on the weight of your food and it adds up rather quickly. A small-sized stir fry including meat will run you $12-17.
The salad bar-style ingredient area lends itself to cross-contamination. As well, I received several charred remnants from a previous lunch in my dish and my shrimp was overcooked, to the point of being inedible.
