  • We had chef's special sushi and sashimi plate, caterpillar roll, bibimbab. Everything was fresh, nicely presented. I had thick and fresh cuts of tuna, yellow tail, unagi, and even ikura sushi in the sushi plate, it was a nice selection of nigiri sushi. Caterpillar roll was bigger than I thought, and it came with miso soup and salad. One of my Japanese friend ordered bibimbab, and I didn't know it is served in the heated stone pot, it was very unique. The pot was still hot until we finish our meal!
We spend around $60 for 3, considering it was dinner time, I guess it's reasonable price. Also we were seated in Tatami room which was very nice. It seems great for small party around 6 people.

  • Order: chef's special sushi and sashimi plate, caterpillar roll, bibimbab

  • We had eaten at Masamune before and it was acceptable. It is not acceptable now. The new chef is using inferior technic and poor selection of foodstuff. We were disappointed.
In summary Masamune is now above average expensive and below average food.

  • Order: spider roll, california roll, white tuna all too expensive for the food standard

  • They have really fresh sashimi and sushi. I really like this place because of fresh fish. Every day they have new arrived fish!! They changed management almost year ago, but I still visit this place. After new management, they have new menu which including special rolls and combo meals! This place still best in Mississauga.

  • Order: Sashimi small, salmon teriyaki and sake

  • I recently went back to Masamune after having been away from Mississauga for the last year. I guess within the year or so I've been away they have changed hands. The exceptional sushi chef who had been behind the counter for years is no longer there! In fact all of the familiar faces are no longer here. I've always had a good meal here in the past, especially the sushi which was the best in Mississauga. I wonder where they are now.... I believe it is the change in chefs that has led to the downgrade of quality at this once stellar establishment..

  • Hadn't been down here for a couple of years. They have definitely gone downhill. The food is not what it used to be. Too bad. We have to go to Jimbay now and they are even more expensive down there. Speaking of which, we went here last night and were surprised by the prices. Spider roll for $15! Two people and no alcohol and it was $115 before tip!!! Complete rip off. They do not have Aji and in fact didn't know what it is. She and the chef exchanged blank glances. They don't have bottled light soya sauce and didn't care at all. The nori was chewy and soggy beyond normal. Sadly, these are all deteriorations from the old Masamune.

  • Order: spider rolls and tuna

  • I am a regular diner of Japanese restaurants from Toronto to Hamilton, and this was not a Sushi experience that lived up to the hype.

    The Good:
    - Food looked good, and tasted good for the most part

    The Bad:
    - EXPENSIVE. Way too expensive. The average roll cost $15 and the sashimi was significantly cut small for a platter that cost $35.
    - Location, difficult to spot from the road if you've never been there before
    - Poor service. Unattentive staff; would often leave without refilling tea

I don't care how hungry I am, there are far better (not to mention, CHEAPER) Japanese restaurants on Bloor St. in Toronto, and I would highly recommend trying those out before making a second or even first time visit to Masamune.

In fact, I'd be willing to bet two spider rolls and a large sashimi platter that there's at least five better Japanese restaurants to be had in Mississauga.

  • Order: Kimchi appetizer, Softshell Crab Tempura, California Roll, Spider Roll, Salmon Dragon Roll, Small Sashimi Platter (30 pieces)

  • Reading the last review has led me to conclude that the person is a very uneducated fool who is utterly stupid to say the very least! I thought I should say something about this fantastic establishment.

Firstly, the reviewer writes that his Chinese friend brought him to experience the "whole sushi phenomenon from his country." Most educated people know that Sushi is Japanese not Chinese.

Second, the reviewer writes that the food is raw and uncooked, concluding that thus the food is "disgusting." Never have I come across a review as utterly stupid as this one. Reading this makes me quite sad to see that there are still so many foolish uneducated fools around writing garbage about things they know nothing about!

Im assuming that the "raw vegetable soup" the reviewer is refering to is in fact miso soup. Which is made from fermented soy bean paste.

I thought as a long time regular of Masamune I should write something about this place.
Everyone who has been to this gem of a restaurant knows that they mean business here when it comes to fish. The sushi is consistenly excellent, while many places tend to be hit or miss.

Never in my 10+ years of dining here have I ever encountered a bad dining experience. The sashimi is thick and flavourful, you won't find thin flimsy cuts of fish here. Also, the fish is meticulosy prepared, stored, and served.

For sushi novies (my husband being one!) they have a wide wide range of delicious kitchen dishes as well.

This place is great, and the previous reviewer who clearly knows nothing about sushi or Japanese food, being shocked that the sushi is raw needs some serious food and culture education.
    Shame on you.

  • Order: Chef's Sushi and Sashimi Platter

I think you need to forgive "figuretop1" review of Masamune, I looked at their reviews and they seem to think that Swiss Chalet is good food. If that chump had anything serious going on upstairs then they need to hit the Stockyards in Toronto for...

  • I was invited here by a Chinese friend. He wanted me to try this whole sushi phenomenon from his country. Well to my surprise most of the patrons were Canadians. I guess we do eat sushi after all.

The food is disgusting. It is RAW and uncooked. Definitely scary if you know bacteria. I hope the kitchen is clean!! Also they bring you raw vegetable soup.

    People, the fish is raw.

Anyway if you must go then be aware that you can ask for steaky beef which is cooked. (I found out later)

Seriously?! "It is RAW and uncooked"?! IT'S SUSHI!

And either your friend is not Chinese and you're ignorant, or he is Chinese and you think sushi is also Chinese... and you're still ignorant.

Go back to McDonalds. Or Swiss Chalet, I see...

  • I'm from Alberta on business staying at the closeby Stage West Hotel. I discovered Masamune walking down Dixie St in search of a Starbucks. I didn't find a starbucks but wound up finding delicious sushi. I ordered the Chef's Sushi, which came with a salad and miso soup to start. The sushi was delicious, it included staples such as tuna, salmon, red snapper and premium peices such as eel unagi, yellowtail, founder. It also came with a tempura maki which was also very nice. The service was very good, my waitress was very nice and ensured my tea cup was never empty! Another thing I really appreciated was that the first time I went in, I asked for no salad dressing on the salad, and the second I went in, my waitress gave me a salad sans dressing even when I forgot to mention it when I ordered. Very impressive attention to detail. The chef also remembered to put double wasabi on all my sushi. Love Love Love this place, Wish I could take it back home with me!
