This is our favorite Greek restaurant. Service is not always the best, but not the worst either. But the food is good and the atmosphere is nice.

Visited Astoria for the first time with 5 adults @ 6pm on a Friday. The service was incredibly slow and inadequate. No water, difficult to get our drink orders and additonal drinks. I don't believe it was entirely the waiters fault, it appeared they were short staffed. The salads arrived soggy. I am sure that they were made at least an hour ahead of time and were sitting in the kitchen with the dressing soaking in it. Wilted lettuce is not my idea of a salad. The Calemari was cut in very large pieces and tough. It was cooked too long. The main course took forever to arrive. No additonal drinks during the wait period. Not even water. After inquiring about the food, it arrived. There were 4 orders of shish kabobs and one order of their Seafood Special (Salmon and 4 shrimp) The lamb shish kebobs were fairly good, the pork was dark on the outside and pink on the inside...looks as though they were rushing to cook it. Cooking it on the outside and not on the inside. The Salmon was a large piece. Looked very good however it was overcooked and extremely dry. A glass or too of water would have helped. I tried to search for any kind of leftover sauce that was on the table to make it more edible but gave up and left the rest.
We won't return. Oh yes, you get a lot of potatoes and rice with your meal but that doesn't make a good restaurant.

This is where we go for Greek food. Our time slot is Fridays between 4 and 5PM and the food is always top notch. We are regulars, so they throw out that coffee (that needs a bucket of water thrown into it) and bring us freshly brewed. My favorite is the small chicken shish Kebob with rice and rice.....I love that rice. There is always chicken left over for our favorite dog next door and she is always waiting for her treat. We no longer have to go to the Danforth as the reviewer below notes. We first went there (Danforth) when it was a little place next to where they are, and the two little guys were there to welcome you, probably around 1982.
Go next door to Starsky's while you are out in Mississauga........great Polish supermarket.
This is not my first review here just the first since registration is a requirement!!

Best tzatziki I've ever found, I go back to the restaurant for that reason alone. Meat is always very good and portions are very large (more than average person can handle in one sitting).

This is THE best Greek food even better than most of what you get on The Danforth (ie Greek Town). Everything is perfectly cooked, fresh and large servings. Service is pleasant and efficient. Restaurant is clean and cozy with fireplace in winter.
- Order: Pork, chicken, lamb souvlaki, saganaki
- Don't have to drive to Danforth anymore!

While at Astoria on Danforth, we noticed a sign promoting new locations, one of them on Dundas St. in Mississauga. Don't expect a funky patio, as it is really small with bad plastic chairs, overlooking a parking lot. (Welcome to the suburbs) What is really important is that the food is great with service to match; speedy and efficient. The portions are generous and cooked to your specs. The lamb or chicken is flavor rich and the two sides of rice, potato or fries are acceptable. Even with a small order there is enough for doggie later. We noted they can accommodate big groups for parties too!

Outside of the Danforth, finding good Greek food has never been easy for me. It should be simple and straight forward, but it is rare that you get a good meal. Astoria always delivers!
It is one ofthe few places that can make a chicken souflaki and not ake it completely dry. The accompanying taziki sauce is excellent. The potatoes and rice are nothing to write home about, but who has room for the sides when there is so much chicken and sauce.
If you're looking for a good Greek meal in the west end, look no further!

I usually don't like to dine at big chain restaurants, so I do not remember the food at other Greek places such as The Friendly Greek/Mr. Greek.
Having said that, if you are in the mood for good Greek food, especially a craving for grilled meats, Astoria is the place!
Either lamb/chicken soulaki dinner (including rice + a choice of 2 sides) was less than $14, quite reasonable. Tzatziki is absolutely delicious and meats were not dry or over-cooked. Done to perfection. Large enough portion for doggy bag.
If I'm feeling like Greek, I won't hesitate to visit again!
