  • My colleague and I visited London for a conference (Apr 11-14, 2011) and we were told by another colleague (who lived in London for a year) that this sushi place is great. We arrived and was taken aback by the all-you-can-eat-price of 25.99 plus tax per person. Back in suburban Toronto, the prices would range from 18.99-23.99 and you would only find 25.99 all you can eat prices at expensive downtown Toronto restaurants. The menu was disappointing because although the menu list looked large, it really was just one column of things to pick from. (The right side column was just the English translation.) By the second round of order, we found ourselves looking at the menu and saying "Well we already had spicy salmon rolls but I guess we'll order that again..." There really was a lack of variety for the price we paid. As well, there was no unlimited shrimp tempura, soup, or salad - these were just a one time order per table. There was no ice cream for dessert either. In terms of the food, there was the good and the bad. The miso soup was delicious! The tempura was ok. The sushi salmon/tuna rolls were pretty good. There was a weird roll - asparagus roll, in which it was a single small piece of asparagus within the roll. It almost looked like a green pea roll! The sweet potato roll was not good - the sweet potato was undercooked. Overall, the rolls weren't tightly wrapped and sometimes fell apart as you picked it up. Another complaint was the sushi - there was too much rice that it was almost a ball of rice underneath the fish rather than the usual flat rectangular piece of rice. The service was pretty good. The server was attentive and nice. The restaurant is a family business and we showed up late in the night. It was endearing to watch that the family sit together at the end of the night to eat their dinner after a hard day at work.

  • Order: spicy tuna rolls, green salad, spicy salmon rolls, asparagus rolls, california rolls, sweet potato rolls, sushi, tempura, miso

Thanks for the review. I wonder why you wouldn't examine the menu before you decided to commit to the very expensive all you can eat?

  • I go to Itichiban at least once a week. When I first moved to this city it took me quite some time to find a decent sushi place. I also work at a hotel and am constanley reccominding Itchiban and have yet to hear someone tell me something bad about it! Great service, great food, great atmosphere!!!!

  • I adore this place! I have visited 10+ times this year. Along with many other people I've spoken to, I agree that Ichiban has the best quality sushi compared to many other places in London. The price is definitely worth the taste.

The service is pretty good. Very friendly and inviting. We receive our order within minutes. Certainly tip-worthy.

If you go, try the Kamikage Salmon roll (spicy salmon), Vegetable + Shrimp tempura, and the miso soup.

  • This place is marvelous. I've never had a bad experience here. The staff is lovely and attentive, and I personally think the food is some of the best sushi in London. It's a little expensive yes, but tastes so fresh and is prepared with a lot of care. I will for sure visit again soon!

  • We got there a few minutes before it opened on a Saturday. There was absolutely no one there. No one came by later either.

We didn't look at the prices before we walked in but when we did, we realized it was super expensive for what it was. They charged us $2.50 for green tea that is usually complimentary at any other Japanese restaurant. We ended up ordering miso soups and seaweed salad (because everything else on the menu was too expensive and not filling). The food ended up being just average.

We decided to just eat a snack here and get full elsewhere. Definitely will not return. There are other better Japanese restaurants in the area.

  • Order: Miso Soup, Seaweed Salad and Green Tea

  • I've been to Ichiban several times for their all-you-can-eat menu. The quality of the ingredients is quite high and the presentation is lovely.

I will admit that the service is a little slow at times as the lone waitress on Sundays struggles to keep up with all the tables. This restaurant (like many sushi places) should really consider hiring more wait staff. That being said, the woman I've had has always been quite friendly.

If you plan on attending, I'd recommend going at an off time for the obvious reasons mentioned above.

Sidenote--the BBQ eel sushi and spicy salmon roll are delicious.

  • I've been having a really hard time finding a decent sushi restaurant in London, and I think I finally found one. It's a touch pricier than I am used to paying, but considering that it's the same price as Green Tea (but much better), I can't really complain. If you really really wanna be full you'll probably spend about $30 here. The decor is really nice, and the service is friendly. I wasn't a huge fan of the kimchi (it was like the spices had fermented on it), but their seaweed salad and sushi are excellent.

  • Order: small sushi boat, seaweed salad, kimchi, sushi combos

  • I've eaten at Ichiban three times now. If it were not for my second visit, I could definitely say I would never return.

The first time, I spent a good $30 on sushi rolls and miso soup. And I was not impressed. It wasn't bad -- but it was bland and lacked taste.

The second time, I ordered a teriyaki chicken noodle dish with some sashimi and sake on the side. Excellent food completely...

Then, I returned once more and decided a complete sushi roll meal, even though it would be more expensive, would be in order. Well, I ate my fill but I can't say I was very impressed.

I think Ichiban has the potential to be great - as my second meal emphasized. But I do think it's hit and miss.

I would like to emphasize, however, that while my food was mixed, the service and atmosphere was excellent. I've never felt out-of-place and it's a very attractive restaurant.

  • Overpriced, poor selection. Even the all you can eat menu is at least $5 more than everywhere else. The sushi is fairly bland, maybe a little better than what you'd find in a grocery store. I would not recommend this place to anyone who has even slightly discriminating taste.

  • After being seated at a table, we waited for at least 20 minutes before our order was taken. Our food took quite a long time, and the appetizers and the pot of tea arrived WITH our meals (we would have preferred to have gotten those items before our actual meals). The waitress had completely forgotten to give us our soup and salads, and the Chicken Yaki Udon was cold when it was served. Not only were we not given plates to eat off of, but service was so terrible that flagging someone down was not enough. In order to get the server's attention, we had to physically step out of our booth and stand in their way to get any sort of assistance from them. The food itself was good, but it was nothing I could say wow over. I was quite disappointed as I have heard really great things about this restaurant.

Upon finishing our meal, we waited for at least 40 minutes (no exaggeration) for our bill (and even this had to be requested forcefully).

Like another reviewer on this page, this was the first time in my life I have not left a tip.

  • Order: Tempura, Sashimi, several Maki rolls, Chicken Yaki Udon
