I like this place for lunch. It is a bit of a dive, but the food tends to be pretty good, and the service is fine. Go in with modest expectations and you will not be disappointed, particularly for what you pay.
- Order: Fish and Chips
- It was average at best.

I had high expectations for this restaurant because it was in a hotel at the Kitchener downtown core. I brought a friend along with me and there was no one when we arrived (in fact, we were the very few who went for lunch here).
That aside, the food was mediocre at best. I thought the portion was generous for the price. There was alot of fries and they tasted a bit too salty for my liking. The onions used to garnish the steak is very sweet, but at the same time you can taste that the cook used a lot of butter. The steak was perfect (I requested medium-well), the tomatoes and lettuce used as a garnish was fresh and tasty. My plate also had two generous slices of garlic bread too and they tasted alright.
In terms of the service, it was good. The waitress was very attentive because we sat next to the bar. She introduced us and later asked us if the food was alright. The "Thank You" note on the receipt was a nice touch.
However, things that could be improved is how they served their food. I understand that they had to serve our food at the same time but my dish turned a bit cold. Perhaps they could put it under a heating lamp while they're finished cooking the other dish? The decor, even though it is pub style or "old-fashioned", needs better lighting. I wish there was some kind of natural light... but I don't blame them since the pub was downstairs in the basement.
Overall, pretty good. The restaurant has good service and value for the money, food is average, but they needed to improve on the location and the ambiance. I don't mind coming back, but I also don't have a reason to come back either (maybe I will for the selection of beers they have).

Went in for lunch and the place was completely empty. It's a huge place so I'm guessing we just weren't there during peak hours? Waitress was very nice and attentive. The food was just about right for the price we paid. Nothing spectacular but not bad either. I may return for dinner sometime as the place looks very nice on the inside.

We had came to this pub last year (2006) and made reservations again this year to attend again because many of us from the Oldtimers Hockey Tournament had previously enjoyed our visit , service and meals back then. Unfortunately our service was just horrible this year, and the waiter ( manager we are now told) had received a $20.00 bill from one of us and gave back change for a $5.00 bill only. This young man claimed our party was scamming him, and refused to count his till,or acknowledge that he was in the wrong at all. He was willing to let all of us ( at least $ 200.00 in orders) walk out the door all because he refused to accept that we were right about a 20 being given and not a 5 dollar bill. In the end our meals took almost 45 min to an hour and longer to receive, and the man in our party who gave the young man the 20, coincidently received his meal at least an hour and ten minutes after ordering, and it was ice cold as if it had not even been cooked at all.One of the ladies in our party did not even receiv all of her meal either.Final ending, this young man did give us all a free drink and we were not charged for our party's food that came out ice cold,or for the food which was forgotten about. We will definitely not be returning to this restaurant on our next annual visit again.

Ive been coming to this place on and off over the years. When deciding on places to eat my friends always forget this place exists and then someone will suggest 'How about Rum Runner?' and everyone is agreed.
Cozy and Warm environment, Staff are friendly and fast. Nice selection of quality beers on tap. Never busy. Try the mesquite BBQ wings, they are the best ive ever had, better then Mortys' cause they dont skimp on the sauce.
Higher class environment then your normal pub. table cloths, and nice upholstered hardwood chairs. Pub is devided into different areas so it is very private. Good place to bring a date.
Affordable prices.

Jane is an excellent server, drinks are well made, food is pretty quick within 10 to 15 mins, fries are nice and crispy. Plus you get the pleasure of LYAO at Yuk Yuks for $15 or play pool, darts, or games with friends. They have open mike night and poker nights on thurs. This place has lots of history and great service.
- Order: ceasar salad, perogies, nachos, tuna melt, fries are all really tasty
