We decided to try this little place based on its good reviews, and this time we were not disappointed. The food was delicious - the meat tender, succulent, in wonderful curry sauces. We both ordered the small meals, (small? - we needed takeout containers as we couldn't finish) for 10.95. This included choice of meat, choice of rice, fried plantains, and choice of soup or salad. It was a very generous plate of absolutely delicious caribbean food! We highly recommend the place. It isn't fancy, the service is very efficient, but a little cool, and the food is to die for.
- Order: curried goat (best I've ever had!) curried chicken, rice and peas, fried plantain, patty, salad, ginger beer, red bean soup
- Great food, casual cafeteria style

I have been here several times with my boyfriend and each time we enjoy large portions of very tasty Caribbean food.
It is definitely worth a try, especially if you're in the mood for Caribbean or to do something different.
I usually go for jerk pork with the hot jerk sauce and it's delicious. As others have said the service is pretty basic. It's cafeteria style as I said before, but if you don't mind the lack of atmosphere it's pretty reasonably priced and they do give you large portions.
- Order: jerk chicken, jerk pork, goat curry, pink ting, beef curry, plantain, coleslaw

This place is everything that Island Grill isn't! I get takeout from Rainbow at least once every two weeks and food and large portions are always amazing. Rainbow's Goat Curry is to die for. It looks a lot better inside after the renovation, however, it's definitely not the best place for a sit-down meal. The service is sub par, but that seems to be the common theme as seen in other comments. The food is so good that you don't really notice the poor service.
I tried a Beef Curry Roti at Island Grill today just to try them out and it was the most disgusting, overpriced piece of restaurant food I have ever had. I'm venting about Island Grill here as they don't seem to have a page on this site.
- Order: Goat Curry and Roti (takeout).

Piggy is in carribean heaven! What a treat! Home style cooking carribean style!
The food is fantastic, and Piggy is going back for more.
The food could be a little spicier for Piggy's taste, but other than that, it is spot on. Delicioussss!
The staff are friendly and laid back, and the price is right for the great taste! - Order: Coconut Water, Oxtail, Curried Chicken, Jerk Pork, Rice and Peas, Coleslaw and Macaroni Salad, Fried Plantains, Calaloo

The thing about Rainbow is, while the service seems frosty at first, they just need time to warm up to you. Now when I go in, the ladies behind the counter often throw in a little extra this and that, or bring a jug of water to the table. It takes a good while, but like the love of a good cat, once they like you, they like you.
And beyond that, the food is incredible. My Jamaican accountant says it is the best Jamaican food she has had outside of her home country.
Try the soup on Friday, the jerk pork, or the curry chicken roti. Also curried goat is excellent, but has bones in, so be warned.
Go here, go often, you'll love it.

Like every says, the service is pretty terrible, no smiles, no chit chat, the atmosphere is pretty bad too, but the food is absolutely delicious and good value for the money. So if you just want a good, wuick meal, and don't care about service, this place fits the bill.

My DH and I have eaten here/picked up takeout many times over the past few years.
The food is really excellent. Certainly comparable with the Jamaican places in NW Toronto, even with the grub in Jamaica.
We typically get the curry chicken roti which is a STEAL at @ $7!! It comes with a nice chunk of fryed plantain that I enjoy but DH turns his handsome nose up at ("too greasy").
The roti is a very substantial meal in itself and arrives at about a "medium" spicy factor. We like some heat in our food so we always add some extra chillies or carribean-style hotsauce, mmmmmmmm!
Honerable mention goes to thier Jerk Chicken, hot patties, homemade macaroni salad, and coleslaw. All are surprisingly good.
The service is very ummm.. "Jamaican". That is to say that it appears to Canadians to be brusk and unfriendly. Anyone who's spent some time in Jamaica however will understand that the culture doesnt require a lot of smiley greetings to strangers, just efficient service and that's exactly what you get.
The ambiance is certainly lacking if you're looking for something quiet or upscale. This is very much a lunch-stop/diner type place but is fairly clean and offers plenty of seating and a view of King Street through thier large plate glass storefront. - Order: Jerk Chicken, Chicken Curry, Roti, Patties, Macaroni Salad, Coleslaw, Festival, Ginger Beer

I eat lunch at the Rainbow quite often. I really enjoy the food. The servings are large. You line up buffet style to get your food so that is a way of reducing the price, which is very reasonable (low for the quality of food). Highly recommended!

I was from out of town and hungry.
I went in.
The following sums up my visit here.
Me (to owner): I'm hungry and I only have 8 bucks.
Owner: I can get you a small mixed plate for 6 something
Me: Thats greaT!
Owner: What type of salad do you want? (there was a lettuce sald, macaroni sald and good looking coleslaw)
Me: Did you make the coleslaw yourself?
owner :Yes.(It was really good)
Me: I'll have that please! To make a long story short,I had stew meat, rice and peas, eggplant and some spinach dish that I can't remember the name of ,and it was the best Caribbean meal I have ever had,Including Dining in Jamaica.
If you want an authentic meal in the tri city area,,cooked by a great chef and great value for your money, this is highly recommended. - Order: stew meat, spinach, sweet potatoes/eggplant,peas and ricecole slaw
