  • The old atmosphere of days gone by is gradually being updated to keep up with the times.
New chairs, clutter removed, next is new windows and replace tippy tables.
Overall good value and selection for the money and desserts are always great.
Good homestyle cooking and getting better every visit.

  • Order: chicken finger dinner and roast turkey-yum

  • To those people writing bad reviews about the Pioneer, just what are you smoking?Food is good and tasty. The pies are to die for! The place COULD use some updating of decor. I don't know anybody who doesn't like the Pioneer.

  • Order: Quiche, salad, coffee, banana cream pie which was THE BEST!

  • My wife suggested going here as she had great memories of tasty food and fun atmosphere (1995)
However, we did not find too many positives on our recent visit. Food was bland...hamburger seemed pan fried....odd for a "BBQ" joint. Pulled chicked sandwhich had little flavour...gravy saved the day there. Inside decor was dated. It reminded me of my grandmothers living room...full of knick-knacks and plastic flowers. Service was friendly enough. My 2 year old liked the stone staute of the couple with the concrete umbrella.
We will not be going back.

  • Mom and I fondly remembered Pioneer-B-Q when our family used to go occasionally years ago. But on our recent visit we were sadly disappointed by the food quality, very bland pulled-meat sandwiches followed by gelatinous slices of pie for dessert (dessert sounded better than they tasted). Sadly, we will not return and can only reflect on past fond memories!

  • Order: Pulled chicken sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, 2 iced teas, 1 slice coconut cream pie, 1 slice chocolate-strawberry cream pie

  • I'd heard this was a pretty good K-W BBQ place and whiel I wasn't dissapointed, I wasn;t overwhelmed either.
I do like the old-school feel of the restaurnt's decor -- it woudl fall into the "Family style' place, and definitely in the tradition of southern BBQ (with picnic tables and porch).
The BBQ beef was tasty enough to eat without condiments, but I prefer more of a 'blast' from the sauces/marinades -- more of a Southern-style for me please. The burger my dining companion had was home-made and pretty good.
Service was friendly, but maybe a little slow, but I found that in keeping with the style of the restaurant -- even though I woudl have preferred faster service, it was kinda refreshing that you were not rushed.
Prices are very reasonable -- you can pay more for the junk they sell a chain-family places, and enjoy it less.

So, whiel it was not the true BBQ style I was looking for, it is a pretty good, reasonably-priced family-styel restaurant.
I'll go back, if onlyto try their home-made pies...

  • Order: Beef BBQ sandwich, cole slaw, burger, fries

  • This place is no big deal. The food is weak, The restaurant is dated and seems like it is falling apart. Trust me not as bad as most Asian restaurants around K-W but not as good as Moose or such.

  • Its been here since 1927 and the recent management change has changed nothing

  • Order: 2 Home made soups daily Turkey from the bird on toasted light rye with lettuce and really decent tomato considering the season. Cranberry Jelly to top it off . I asked for mixed light and dark meat because I like both and was rewarded with a meal just as I ordered . This restaurant has changed management after some 40 years but the menu and the service and the staff have remained . There have been some glitches with the change but its still the best value in the KW area for Lunch and perhaps dinner as well

  • Service was friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was more a kin to a retirement home than a restaurant - it was also stiflingly hot. The food was very boring - pretty sure it was 'out of the package' ribs, and powdered mashed potatoes. Desert was on par with anywhere else... All in all, kind of a boring and depressing dinner. Not worth returning to.

  • This was not our first visit to the Pioneer, the food and service continued to bring us back , and yes the atmosphere was also very friendly.
Our waitress Michelle was very polite, pleasant and knowledgeable advising us of the specials of the day as well as tips on the main menu and the desserts available. Our experience was a good one and will definitely keep bringing us back. We find that all the staff to be very cheery and helpful at all times.

  • Order: My wife ordered the chili and I had a cheese burger with fried onions
