Review: Really enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere in the louge area. I'm happy to see a restaurant of this caliber in the county of Essex. Great calamari appetizer. We'll be back.

Review: I have always enjoyed Mephisto's. Lately, it's been off. Granted, I haven't been there in a few months now, but that only speaks to what I am trying to say. The last time I went, the bread was stale, my steak overcooked and the shrimp rubbery. I knew something was off but wasn't sure what. Upon speaking with some friends they said they have heard the same thing from many others. Now I am hearing that it has been much better lately and thus I will be giving it another shot as I know the quality than CAN come out of there.

Review: My daughter and I went in for dinner, but after looking at the menu decided on two appetizers each to share and a cocktail each.
The kobi beef was delicious, but the portions were ridiculously small. The lobster was miniscule, and the artichoke appetizer, was awful. When we told the server we hadn't enjoyed that one, he argued with us, and said it was one of their best sellers. I am a very experienced diner. I expect an upscale restaurant to accept criticism when it is presented in a pleasant constructive way. This place takes itself to seriously.
As for the atmosphere, way to dark. There is a difference between ambience and just putting the lights down too low.
This restaurant needs to make some changes if they want to keep people coming back.

Review: The food is sub-par.
I can't say much more than that. The atmosphere is what kills it for me.I prefer Jacks or Koi.
Both for atmosphere and food. - Order: some steak, a weird soup ( cant remember)

Review: The first time my fiance and I went to Mephisto's we were hooked! We couldnt believe that such a fantastic dinner menu would be so affordable. We go to Mephistos once a month on our anniversary, and refuse to go anywhere else. Each time we order the steak dishes and they always taste the same which is soooo important. We've come to the conclusion that its just as good, if not BETTER than the keg.... Just at an affordable price. (which, being a young couple starting out, is really important to us) The salad that comes with my dinner is the best Ive ever had. I keep trying to get the ingredients off of one of the waitresses for the balsamic style dressing, but they wont tell me! Fresh slivers of parmasian cheese to top off the salad is to die for!
Overall, the ONLY thing I would change is to make the Loung bigger. Its pretty much elbow to elbow in there........ but, I would take that over anything to be able to just go there and have the tastiest dinner. - Order: both steak dishes
- STILL IN SHOCK !!!

Review: Reservations for Thursday Sept. 11/08. Arrived at 6:30 and waited 5 minutes to be seated yet there were only 2 other tables (5 people) in main dining room. Ordered a bottle of wine and appetizers, Colossal Prawn Cocktail which we were told they didn't have ( how does a restaurant not have shrimp cocktail on a Thursday night?). We then ordered Lobster Stuffed Portobello( our server recommended since my husband wanted a seafood appetizer) and a Classic Ceasar, for main entrees, 12 oz. New York Strip and Eggplant Portobello Parmesan. The Lobster Stuffed Portobello was served in a rim soup bowl, it was the size of a button mushroom with a speck of lobster served atop 4 cappellini noodles and a tiny piece of roasted red pepper, this was a 2 bite app. for $12.00, when our server put it on the table we were in shock ( we are sure she must have seen the expressions on our faces), The ceasar for $9.00 was 6 romaine hearts with hardly any dressing with burnt prosciutto bits and polenta croutons.(I have had it there before and it was twice the size and had ample dressing). Our server never asked if our appetizers were okay, I wonder why? It gets better! The 12 oz. New York Strip was at best 7-8oz square in shape and came pre cut in strips, no taste and surely didn't resemble a New York Strip( never have been served a pre sliced steak in all our years of dining). Eggplant Portobello Parmesan, once again, elaborate description translated to a hunk of eggplant with sauteed onions, 2 quarter sized portobellos with a dot of mascarpone cheese on top, edible but not good. Wine & Cappucinos were good. All this was served in under an hour, hardly a fine dining experience. Enough said, I think you get the idea. Just when you think you've seen it all........... and to think we drove 1 1/2 hours for this 55 minute $150.00 dining experience.

Review: We are local couple who went for anniversary dinner.Food was very good but there seemed to be confusion as to where to sit us which ended up at the back right next to another couple and beside the kitchen entrance. spent quite a bit of money there and host/owner/whatever did not have the manners to come over to ask us how things were ....as we left.Felt that staff are under pressure and that shows through...thats a pity as it could be a great little restaurant.

Review: I have now eaten at Mephistos 3 times and have been happy with each experience. The initial visit, my husband and I dined there for Valentines Day dinner. The atmosphere was romantic and quaint, the food was deliscious and reasonable priced. It far outweighs that of its competition accross the street (and is so much more tasteful and clean!!).
I have also popped in for lunch and drinks. Each time amazed at the reception received by the staff and the quality of their food. I will always go back and consider this a gem in our beautiful community. - Order: appetizers, entree, dessert and drinks!

Review: I live in Kingsville and was looking for a restaraunt to take my wife out to on our anniversay. I read the previous reviews and am glad I followed my instincts and tried the restaraunt myself. Our meals were amazing, the food the service was excellant which led me to the conclusion that the poor reviews must be from the type of people that could never be pleased! Come on people this place is top shelf!

Review: My husband and I have recently moved to the area from a suburb outside Toronto ,not expecting to find the same caliber of food in a small town. We along with visiting friends were ecstatic to find that there is as spectacular of a place such as Mephistos Griil and Lounge to dine at.The food and service are top notch and the ambiance classy without being stuffy.A real diamond in the ruff.
- Order: lobster portobello on angel hair pasta, avocado eggrolls, cappuccino style forest mushroom soup and beef satay dish 4 appetizers beef tenderloin, salmon canadiana, miso halibut and angus prime rib
