  • I don't usually write bad reviews but I feel this is necessary. I took my boyfriend there the other night we really love sushi. We got there and the owners were not very nice to us. I attempted to order a spider roll and they acted really awkward and proceeded to tell me that soft shell crab was no longer available for import in Canada, he also later told me that he had not had any soft shell crab since April. It is perfectly fine to me that they were out of the ingredient I would have just ordered something else but what I didn't appreciate was the way that he spoke to me. Also if you have been out of an ingredient since April as he said, perhaps they should have blocked that part from the menu. I didn't really know what to order at that point so I got half of what I originally was going to get. What we did get was pretty good especially the spicy salmon roll.

As a minor point my boyfriend ordered the beef teiryaki and i really wish they would have waited a little on my sushi and brought it at the same time as he beef because I ended up eating and finishing mine about ten minutes before his came then had to watch him finish his. We also waited around for a very long time waiting for the bill they didn't come by to ask us how it was so we finally just went up to the register. I should also add they they were not busy we were they only ones in the restaurant.

All in all the sushi is pretty good perhaps I went on a bad night for them, I just probably will not be back.

  • Yes! Talk about Asian Hospitality! If this is how all the Asian restaurants run outside of the GTA (particularly, Toronto, Scarborough, Finch areas), I am willing to drive further for it! The sushi definitely had a different style to it - both in taste and presentation, and I have had my fair share of general sushi. Hands down, their sushi was really something else. The owner really knows his stuff about sushi! Anyway! I'm glad that my random choice for a place to eat ended up being this place.

  • So although they have all you can eat here it is not like Sakura where you have a varied selection to choose from. There is what they call Queen Size and King Size. Queen size is $20 and it is a set menu. King Size is $25 and it is the same set menu but unlimited amount of the set menu. You have the option of starting with the Queen and if you feel that it is not enough food you can 'upgrade' to the King size so you don't lose out by starting off with the Queen. For most people the Queen size is sufficient. I was full at the end of the Queen size portion and so was my spouse. The set menu consists of: (hopefully I can remember everything)

    - salad
    - fried dumpling (1) and spring roll (1)
    - miso soup
    - california roll
    - dynamite roll
    - spicy roll
    - nigiri- salmon, tuna, butterfish, eel (I think 6 pieces in total)

The food was pretty good overall but for the dynamite and spicy roll I thought the sauces on it were a bit strong (did not even need soy sauce with it). Also, it would be nice if they offered dessert with the all you can eat option. It would be a nice touch.

Also, the server did not bring me enough tea (only one refill) so I left the restaurant feeling parched. The cups (glass) that they use make it too hot to hold the tea to drink. Lastly, they did not bring the bill to the table although it was obvious we were finished and so we sat there waiting for about 10 min while they were cleaning up to close up for the night. I guess one is expected to just go up to the counter when wanting to pay the bill although we were not informed of this. I would have been less fussy about the small details such as this if we had not been the only patrons there.

I think if the food quality was MUCH greater than Sakura I would consider coming back here for AYCE option but I did not notice a huge difference. Guess my palate is not discerning enough.

  • This was the first sushi joint i tried when I moved to Kingston. The food was great, good atmosphere, but it is one of the pricier places to eat.

Since that day I think a couple of restaurants have surpassed sapporo, but the food is still good and worth a visit

  • My friends and I have made this our sushi stop for years. It is the best sushi I have had in kingston, without need to trash other restaurants. The spicy vegetable tempura roll is my favorite. Always a consistent meal. Its a small place, so the speed to make sushi does not scale up if they suddenly have a full house that orders all at once, but even then staff were great and made it work. Someone complained they did not have their bill brought to them. Of course not, its a mom & pop shop, you get it at the cash just like dozens of other family places here in town.

  • I just moved to Kingston and have been on the hunt for the best food.

Best Sushi is at Sapporo's. Near the Adult Video store. Which I thought was sketchy but the food is high quality.

My favourite item is the Spicy Vegetable Spring Rolls. They are sweet with crunchy and a kick of Spice. MMmm soo good. The fish is fresh and well prepared. Definately worth the money. Would not eat sushi anywhere else in Kingston.

The staff is friendly. The service is okay... not the greatest but I go for the food.

    Highly recommended!!

  • My wife and I really enjoy Japanese cuisine and have dined in all of the restaurants in Kingston and many in other cities/countries in our travels. This is a nice family owned restaurant with excellent, fresh, traditional Japanese dishes. The setting is comfortable and pleasant, and the smaller size means you do get good service. Also, the owner prepares the food and you realize that this restaurant is not a sushi assembly line like so many places that purport to be "authentic" Japanese food.

I was surprised to see the 2 negative reviews as they just do not make sense to me as the food is not only excellent but the service is attentive with a personal touch. Frankly, I've never eaten in any restaurant in Kingston that would get those scores and I would suggest readers disregard them.

  • I don't understand some of the reviews posted here. I have eaten at Sapporo Kingston dozens of times and have never had a bad experience. The food is fresh, well presented, and delicious. The service is superb whether the place is packed or empty, lunch or dinner. The atmoshpere is cozy and welcoming too. No, it's not one of those pretentious sushi restaurants in Toronto. I've tried them too, and as far as the food and service goes, Sapporo Kingston matches them with ease. The only difference is the atmoshpere, and considering that Sapporo Kingston is in an older strip mall, sandwiched between the Salvation Army and an Adult Video store, they've done extremely well with what they've got.

There are a total of seven sushi restaurants in Kingston, and I've tried them all. Sapporo Kingston is by far the best of the bunch.

  • The tempura was delicious and had the "something special" that is the hallmark of the owner -chef. It was battered and cooked twice to give it extra light crispiness, while remaining tender and juicy inside.

The Sashimi for 2 was a very generous portion, attractively served, and each piece was tender and just about melted in our mouths. There was a wide selection of fish and a couple of rolls. Especially outstanding was the eel, butterfish, the amazing salmon, and a spicy roll made with tempura-cooked sweet potato (and I don't normally like sweet potato).

This is a small cozy restaurant with spacious tables and no overpowering noise. Service is attentive and friendly and prices are more than reasonable, considering the quality. We have eaten in sushi restaurants from Panama to Hawaii to NY, LA, Montreal and Vancouver and this one is at the top of our list for the combination of price, quality, and the little extras.

  • I have been to this place 3 times so far this year, and every time it was a wonderful experience. It is true that their food is a little expensive but it does taste really great. The owners are a Korean couple, they do not speak perfect English so at times it could be hard to communicate. But they sure know their stuff and are very friendly. I am surprise to see David had such bad experience because I just can't see that happening in this place.
