  • I had recently ate at Sakura for a friend's birthday and I have to say it was the WORST service EVER!

Everyone's orders were getting mixed up and many things that were ordered never showed up. My friend, who is 9 months pregnant, waited over an hour for her order of california and cucumber rolls. She had asked the wait staff FIVE times and never received one bite of food! Who treats a pregnant woman poorly? Sakura does.

The staff is rude. I'm not too sure why they are in the restaurant business when they are that bitter towards the world.

If you want amazing Japanese food, go to Sima Sushi in downtown Kingston. The owners make you feel like home and put a lot of love in their food. Sakura employees should take a lesson from them.

  • I am a regular at Japanese resteraunts . I have been to Japan, I know what the food is and what the real Japanese service is. This place is not. They seem really bothered to be helping you. This day my sister took my wife and I out. The food was not bad. However they wouldn't serve her directly, or talk to her. Actually in the end when they payment they wouldn't deal with her directly. As she is an exec with a large union, I can assure you she is generous. I have seen her drop 50 for a tip in a place like this. This night, there was no tip and now not a return for our regular visits to K town from Durham.

  • A little part of me dies inside when people tell me they enjoy eating at Sakura, partially because it means this place isn't going under anytime soon, and partially because I will write this person off as somebody who doesn't know s#*t about sushi. Not to say I'm a sushi aficionado, but seriously...

I've been here twice; the first occasion was two years ago and it was so forgettable that all I can recall was both myself and my fiancee agreeing that our sushi was adequate at best and still a poor value for an all-you-can-eat dinner deal. I can't really recall anything about the service, so to be fair I can at least say that it wasn't so exceptionally good nor bad to bring anything to mind two years later.

On the second occasion we were invited by a couple that we're friends with to join them at Sakura; we accepted (albeit reluctantly) because they seemed so excited to go there. What occurred that evening could best be described as painful and awkward; painful because our food sucked, and awkward because I didn't have the heart to tell our friends how much I despised the food. The guy we were eating with kept going "Mmmm this is so good!" and I'm ashamed to admit that I echoed his compliments as we ate because... well... I don't know; I guess because we weren't close enough for me to tell him how a really felt haha.

The amount of fish they put on is beyond chintzy, there is absolutely nothing "special" about their "special" rolls and based on this and the way we were served (infrequently and without a hint of sincerity) I am saddened to say that this is the most soulless family-owned restaurant I've ever eaten at. It's blatantly obvious that their bottom line takes precedence to absolutely everything else that they do there. I recognize that any restaurant needs to turn a profit, but the corners they cut and strategies they employ are just plain offensive. Sadly it will probably stay in business due to it's highly visible location and the ignorance or people who somehow think they becoming more "cultured" by eating here.

  • worst visit ever as everything i had ordered was not coming and waited forever and asked service staff where my order was and they said "they didn't know".....I then started to get frustrated and started ordering more food and still was waiting forever so I finally just started eating whatever my fiancee was getting and then they told me that the mix up was there was another big group and maybe it went there. What the H**L you can't figure out if the food I ordered went to a different group???? Then my fiancee said he was getting food that he didn't order????? What the F**K!!! They had the audacity to charge me full price and then the 10% service charge on top of that. DO NOT KNOW IF I WILL GO BACK.....but food that i did get was great.

  • DONT EVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. This restaurant is such a racist. Well I am korean and I went there with my asian friends. When we got a bill, there was a "10% service charge" which seems like a tip. But I don't think they are supposed to charge us the tip on a bill unless we are a bunch of people, but we were just four of us. So I asked a server about it and he said he charges to everyone because a lot of people leave food and so much work.

Then I saw the bills next table, and there was actually no "10% service charge" on the bills for canadian people. So I asked the server about it and he suddenly just told me that he will take those charges out of our bills. But I still wanted to know the actual reason why only we have those charges and he goes, "Because asian people usually make a mass and they always have left-over food." I was so pissed then told him we didn't have any left over, then he said he will take my service charge out and they will never serve me when I come back. Like which kind of server is that? And the last thing that he totally pissed me out of the hell was "BECAUSE KOREAN PEOPLE SUCK" right. on. my. face.

Their attitude is so rude and I know they are like that because this is the only place where contains All-you-can-eat sushi. But seriously Im pretty sure that it's illegal and I really hope it does not keep going on. THE WORST RESTAURANT IN MY LIFE!!

  • My son and daughter went this evening with a group of friends for a "Farewell Supper" as many of their friends are leaving to pursue their studies. My son went to enjoy the times with his friends and had only a glass of water. When the initial order was place the waiter asked who was ordering and then wrongly assumed that everyone else was having the buffet. My son was not the only one who did not order. A friend of his had only a coke which ended up costing her extra too. When my son disputed the bill for the water he was to he had been charged for the buffet, of which he had nothing from, and the rest was for service. I guess it's $7 then just for a glass of Kingston's water. Needless to say when he left he was less then polite and was told he was no longer welcomed there. Outrageous that a waiter has no idea what's he's doing and that the restaurant can charge for something that my son never received. I'm glad I was not there as I would have given the manager a piece of my mind and I would have charged him at least $50 for it.

  • I come here quite often for lunch and dinner. I've always had a better experience during the lunch service. The all you can eat is good, but I prefer ordering fromt their "complete lunch" menu that comes in a bento box, more than enough food for one person for only about $10.

If you're looking for friendly service, this wouldn't be my first recommendation. The service is efficient although a bit "cold".

  • Let me start by saying that ever since this place first opened it's doors, we've been "regulars". Some weeks, we've even eaten there 4 times in a row. But what I experienced today was unforgivable. It was an utter lack of customer service, a complete lack of respect. The guy (the one with the big AX belt buckle, who calls himself a manager) started arguing with us about the charge for a 2 year old child, which is ZERO by the way. All these years we've been going, no one has ever said anything, but this guy says there's a charge for 2 and under now! When we pointed to the menu & asked him to show us, he had the audacity to take away our menus, and go add a piece of tape with the new price!!!!! Ummmmm...I have nothing more to say...nothing.

  • So I see a lot of people here really don like this place, but for me, I think this is one of the best sushi restaurants in Kingston ONLY because they have all you can eat sushi for less than $20 (Dinner costs a lot more, I think around $30?).

First of all, I usually only come for lunch (around 1130) and the restaurant usually has a few other tables, but not too many, so the food usually comes out in around 10 minutes. If you don't like waiting, don't come at times when you expect a lot of other people, because you're going to wait. It's pretty simple.

Now the sushi here is great, unfortunately though, for under $20, you can probably imagine the lunch menu isn't very diverse. It isn't, it mostly has simple "x and y rolls"; it doesn't have those big entree rolls that other restaurants charge $15-$20/order for. The lunch menu has a lot of items too, not just rolls; things like noodles, soups, tempura etc. but it's only the sushi I care about.

The dinner menu does have the entree rolls I was talking about earlier though. I've never been here for dinner because I could probably imagine it gets really busy here and I hate waiting.

So anyways, most people's main gripes about this place is about the service. Just to get this out of the way early, the service here sucks. The waitresses are rude and don't know english, and they're just working for a pay cheque. That being said though, is service really that important? You can order stuff by giving them a slip of paper with the numbers of the dishes you want, so that cuts the necessary interactions with them by quite a bit. Also, giving them the paper makes it a lot less likely they will mess up your order. They do what you ask them to do, who cares if they aren't jumping off the walls to serve you? Just eat your food.

The one thing about this restaurant is how stingy they are. They charge you extra if you leave anything on your plate, even if it's a bit of rice. I ordered a maybe 8 things off their menu and got it on a plate about the size of a laptop. I left a loonie sized ball of rice on the plate and the waiter said next time, i'll be charged extra if I don't finish it.

So in conclusion, great food, awful service, but service is overrated anyways. I want to eat, not socialize with waiters and watiresses

  • I go to Sakura often and disagree with reviews saying the service is slow. Even on busy nights the food has always been brought to us in a very reasonable amount of time. I really like sushi and go to many different Japanese restaurants and Sakura's sushi is some of the best I've had so far. I will definately continue eating there.
