I've had the roti a couple of times and it's great. The food doesn't sit heavy so I'm guessing their claims about healthy cooking are true. I'm looking forward to trying the other dishes - I'll be going again.

Food was to not what I expected from a Carribean restaurant. Been to many some ok but most reheated. Ya Man left me and my friends saying Ya Man! to the lovely ladies at Ya Man. The place was spotless cleaner that my mother's place. The Jerk was hot but I wanted it hotter. I asked for more heat and did they ever turn it up WOW!. The Jerk salad is like sweet-hot-spicy all in one. One guy in the group could care less about pepper but no problem the waitress suggested white rice with chickpeas/spinach. He loved it. The Carib beers were nice and cold. The Doubles were great starters. Couldn't find room for desert this time so guess we will just have to come back EH

Just got home from the mustard festival, where they had a booth set up. I ordered the jerk chicken ($6) which, although it tasted great, the serving was tiny. It was, quite frankly, an insult. One tiny chicken drumstick and rice, served in a styrofoam container about the size of a big mac box from McDonalds.
I went back to complain about the lack of food, and got empty vacant stares, with them repeating "Thank you, thank you" over and over again. No offers to make things right, just an initial sorry, followed with "thank you" whenever I said anything. Obviously they don't care about new customers, or providing any value to customers whatsoever.
Avoid if you don't want to eat again after eating here!

Overrated! The food was not that great...the Chicken roti was very dry. Also, I had a little dispute with them regarding the menu online. It clearly says "Chickpeas and Potato" as one single choice. They tried telling me they are two seperate items. If that's the case, then it should say "Chickpeas OR Potato" or two seperate lines, "Curried Chickpeas" then "Curried Potato".

Finding a West Indian restaurant close to home was a treat. The food, even better. The Rotis were done perfectly, nice, big and dense with lots of their signature hot sauce, which is incredibly hot with a wonderful Garlic and Mango finish. Pumpkin was very nice and their Doubles were a great finish to everything.
Service is friendly, although a bit slow. Be prepared to wait a little bit for your food, but it's worth it.

I was excited to visit Ya Man based on the reviews here and was not disappointed. Our bill was a little more expensive simply because we ordered an array of dishes so that we could try many things. One person, however could easily dine and be full for $10 and under. The place was extremely clean and Vedika's service was supreme. She was informative and helpful. She was able to explain the history and origins behind the dishes served as well as the many beneficial health properties of the various foods. It's nice that they don't use preservatives, wheat in sauces, canned beans or MSG. We were greeted with a taste of their homemade Bonnet pepper hot sauce and an interesting chutney-like sauce made with grated mangos and spices. We each had a Carib beer. The jerk salad was nice and the large ($9.99) was huge, plenty to split between the two of us. We tried the bake & salt fish(4 per order for $4), which were very good. The cod inside was minced and had good flavour. We had the large chicken roti($7.50) and a side of pumpkin puree ($3.50). The roti was very large and also perfect to split. Had I not been sharing, though, I would have had the small of both the salad ($5.99) and the roti($5.50). I'm glad I had the hot sauces to eat with the roti because I found it insufficiently spiced and a little bland inside, but still good in taste and surely in value. I will try the goat roti next time and ask to have it spicier. We tried then the bittermelon with rice and beans done in a coconut milk($7.99). The bittermelon was exactly that and must be an aquired taste. Although proven to help prevent diabetes, I would not order it again as it didn't suit my palatte. I am, however, glad that I tried it. We finished the meal off with a taste of two ice creams - a fruit (can't remember the name) and a coconut. The coconut ice cream was not too sweet and had real coconut flesh in it - a nice change from the store-bought stuff. the place is clearly popular as there were several pick-up orders through the evening. We were one of two dine-in tables. Our food came fast and all our little requests were accomodated with pleasure. Reggae music was played and it added to the atmosphere. They had even decorated the place for Valentine's Day - a cute touch showing attention to detail. The place is very simple and not fine dining, which wasn't what we were looking for anyway. We wanted a new experience and to learn about some new foods and that we did. A good experience and we will be back!

Being coming to Ya man! for atleast 8 months. On my first visit I had a pumpkin/spinach which I was told was the most ordered veggie roti. It was very refreshing. The next time I felt more comfortable ordering because I wanted to try something different. I was told I didn't have to stick to the menu mix and match what ever I wanted even add an extra for a loonie. Great now I got a Greenbanana/eggplant/chickpea roti. Crazy combo but also good. The roti was soft and fresh. I roti are not too big so I don't feel bloated after leaving. The place is always clean. The music is nice. I always bring my book with me to relax while waiting for my order and I sit as long as I want with out being pushed to leave. It is a very welcoming place. Downtown Hamilton is realy getting to be a nice place to hang out. I used to live in Brampton but feel very comfortable around Hamilton.

I had heard that this place had pretty good food so I decided to check it out. All I can say is the people that are rating this place high obviously have low standards OR don't know what real caribbean food tastes like. Their food has little to no flavour, the meat is VERY dry, and they need to learn to stick to original recipes. Stop trying to tweak an oxtail recipe, it's not supposed to be sweet! I am definitely not impressed at all and I will not be returning.
