  • What did I do to deserve this?

I feel like I wronged someone somehow and the cosmic forces are trying to balance things out by forcing the tiniest sushi portions to my knowledge on me at full AYCE prices. Who should I apologize to so that this won't happen again?

Food: Tiny. If you were to order the sashimi, make sure you order your amount in doubles or triples of what you actually want. The servings were less than a centimeter thick. I hope the owners realize that it takes a tremendous amount of time and effort just to save a few measly dollars on fish. Time that could be used to push the food out faster. My eel don (rice) bowl had eel slivers with a heaping bowl of rice. The ratio was 1:20. 1 sliver of eel for 20 heaps of rice. I felt insulted as a customer and as an individual.

Other: I think someone else complained about the smell of the place. Instead, I'll complain about the dirty washrooms and the sticky floors.

If you value your cash and your dignity, please don't go.

  • If you're into cute, small things, then this place might be the right one for you. The sushi is tiny, the hand rolls are small, and everything else on the menu is meant to look "cute" (forget about the taste). The hand rolls have too much rich and vinegar in them, the salmon does NOT taste fresh at all and the food felt a bit amateur to me. Mind you, the sushi never came. Overall, It was a waste of money for me. Not recommended.

  • Was on my sixth visit here with my kids recently. I have noticed that with each visit, owners have managed to cut corners - which will cost them in long run. My impression is that this place won't last. Paid the extra cost so that we could order sashimi. No matter what we order, the sashimi never came out - even though it was our first order. They finally came back, after numerous requests, with sushi, instead of sashimi. After "correcting" the order, the sashimi finally arrived. I though it was a joke - the sashimi pieces were litterally cut into pea size cubes. WTF is with this place?!? Any order of sushi, rolls or fresh fish was lacking in the protien department. Obviously to cut costs. As far as I am concerned, they have made their own bed - they can sleep in it! I will not be returning - the value for what they offer for your $$ has declined substantially! Save your moeny - get a bowl of fresh Pho for a fraction of the cost and save your money.

  • I was just here today with a friend. I figured it would be a nice treat for lunch..

We both ordered the beef Ramen/ Udon..
when brought out, our food was piping hot!! Let that be a warning to you.
I found it odd how the noodles were shorter than you'd think and yet, so thick.. I was also easily amused by their square shape =].
Also, I found the metal ( at least i think it was metal) bowls were fairly dangerous when combined with the heat of the meal.

The service was decent. Every few minutes, we were checked on and got refills (for our tea) frequently.

  • A great place to go for AYCE sushi!

After reading some of the reviews on restaurantica on Sushi Day, I was a bit skeptical and went there with low expectations... However, I was surprised and found that many of the Reviwers experiences were different to mine.

Firstly, they offer the cheapest price for the Lunch Menu in Hamilton. They also have a very wide variety of options. The food and service was great. However, sometimes the food took awhile to arrive at the table because there is only one chef preparing the sushi. Free parking is provided and the staff are quite friendly. The only bad thing I have to say about Sushi Day is that it is obvious that the place is quite old and the interior is not the best. But personally this is not a big issue for me. Lastly, I like how the portions of the dishes served are not gigantic which enables you to order more different things. I had a great experience here and will definitely go there again! =)

  • When they first opened, and the place was practically empty, I would say they had the best sushi in Hamilton - comparable, even, to some of the better sushi I've had in Vancouver. We hadn't been back for about 3 months or so (our last experience was a little less than what it had been). This time, the tofu for the agedashi had gone bad (very bitter tasting), the rolls had way too much rice and cucumber, and very little of anything else (including taste), the chicken was not satisfactorily cooked, the ratio of salmon to rice on the sashimi was abysmal, there was too much brown on said salmon, as well as too much brown on the avocado and salmon used for our rolls, hardly any seafood used for the fried seafood udon, way, way too much batter for the tempura (about a 3 or 4 to one batter to shrimp ratio), and extremely greasy gyoza. We ate as much seaweed salad as we could to offset the bad taste left by the bad tofu and greasy food, but they have apparently taken to replacing half of their seaweed with iceberg lettuce in these salads to save on cost, so even this was below standard. The first two cups of tea, as well, were cold. It seems that they lost too much money in their first months serving fresh, well-prepared food. It's quite sad, really.

  • So I went here with the girlfriend and some buddies there were 6 of us and the service was great!

The waitress kept coming around asking if we needed any more tea, something to drink or if she could help with anything. *slight language barrier nothing to worry about*

She was helpful and the food was good, i'm not picky at all but comparing this place to sapporo, this place blows sapporo out of the water seeing as if you aren't asian you get -- service at sapporo. our waitress came frequently and the food was good. definitely coming back!
10's across the board seeing as i've only been to hoya and sapporo, this place was much more enjoyable than either of them!

  • My friend and i decided to try out this sushi bar considering we weren't fond of sushi star and the bad service

we asked to see the menu first. They surprised us with having two menus. One was 17.99 and the other was 19.99. We decided to stick with the 17.99 one because it had everything we usually order.

The girl was really nice. explained to us how many pieces came with each which was fine although we, from other sushi experiences, already knew how much came with each. she was very considerate.

There was a little notice on the table telling us that the food we don't eat we would have to pay for and the money will go to the people who go to bed hungry. It was so cute.

they get points for chocolate on their banana tempura. I've been to 4 different types of all you can eat and only 1 other place (unfortunately sushi star) had chocolate with their banana tempura.

after our meal the cook came over and asked us what we thought of the rolls and we kind of thought he was hitting on us. He was really nice and really wanted to know what we thought of the food.

My only dislikes were that they put too much rice in their rolls, their crispy rolls were WAY too salty and the iced tea was warm but they put cute little ice cubes that looked like shot glasses in it to make it cool.

  • First off, they give you a choice of two menus. There is a cheaper simple menu that covers the basics, and then a more comprehensive one for a few dollars more. We went for the cheaper one. It had everything we usually order on it. (Sushi, handrolls, maki, desserts, ramen, udon etc.)

I wasn't overly crazy about the food here, but the people that work here seem very nice and genuinely concerned about the customers.
I found the crispy spicy roll too salty, and the avocado roll had too much rice. But the fried squid was excellent, as well as the fried banana. The fried banana is lightly battered, which I prefer over the heavily breaded and battered way that some other sushi places do it in downtown Hamilton.
The yam tempura roll is traditionally done around Hamilton as yam with mayo, but at Sushi Day they have avocado in place of the mayo. Tasty.
I was really impressed by the attitude of the staff. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't be so optimistic. Their food needs some work, but I feel given time they will find their groove. I might go back in a few months and to see if things have improved.

  • There is an odd aroma in the air. This was obvisouly a fast food place in a pervious life. The service was not great although we were only one of two tables in the place, the quality was less than acceptable and nothing came out in a timely manner.I will never go back to this place.
