  • I am not here to Review their very well know and good Veal Sandwich. But their Tripe in Sauce which they serve every Tuesday. You gotta give these people some Credit for putting an Item on their menu that no other larger and longer established Italian Ristorante in Hamilton carries. In the States Tripe is very common in older Italian Restaurants. In Hamilton and the surrounding areas that's definitely not the case.
The Tripe dish that they serve sells out every Tuesday, even though its just Ok. The Price is low however, and again they sell out every Tuesday.
Overall this is a good place that is providing a product that others are not.
They also now offer a Porchetta sandwich which I think is even better than the veal, and worth trying.

If your looking for really old school European
Cuisine I highly recommend a Portuguese Restaurant on Barton Street called Churrasqueira & Cafe Cantinho. They have Tripe and Beans with Pig Ears, Goat, Roasted 20-30lbs Baby Pigs, ect.. A real GEM for we hardcore Euros.

  • Well worth the drive from anywhere. I was in Hamilton last thursday to visit a friend who asked if I would like to try some good old fashion home made style italian food. Of coarse I said YES!
So we ventured up the mountain to Panninoteca where it did'nt hit me untill we walked throught the door to be hit by the great aroma of italian cooking. Ah! did it ever smell good. We were greeted by a very pleasant young lady that knew my friend as a regular. It's a good sign when you see the lady's serving and the men are doing the cooking, it is usually the men that are authentic Italian chef's.
Of coarse I let my friend recommend and do the ordering. It did'nt take long at all and when the food came, the portions were very generous. They even included a nice roasted garlic bread with the meal. Lots of food. We enjoyed a couple of their famous italian veal and meatball sandwiches, followed by a plate of spagetti with a rosse sauce that was better than most fine dinning Italian restaurants that I've been to. We finished off with an insalada mista with balsamic vinegar of coarse and the topper was the premium quality espresso coffee at the end of a great meal, all in a place that seemed like a fast food joint, but tasted like fine dinning. I recomend this place to anyone visiting Hamilton, even if you have to drive a little to get there. This is not the kind of place you will want to go to and try their lower priced procciutto / coldcut sandwich and then complain about it. It's truely a Home style Italian quality of food restaurant, so go for the gusto and enjoy your meal like we did.
Just before we got up to go I looked over at a couple of elderly gentleman being served their pasta orders. They looked at their dishes in amazement and I got a chuckle out of one of them that looks at the dish and say's OH BOY!, That's Italian all the way, "Thumbs up for Panninoteca".

  • Order: Veal sandwich, Meatball sandwich, Spagetti with rosse sauce, mixed salad, beverages and espresso. Roasted garlic bread included.

  • A friend had asked me to try these guys out, so we got in the car and drove from downtown Hamilton which was a good 20-30 minute drive given the construction and usual mess on Upper James, which isn't the fault of Paninoteca, but just the same, if you have an hour for lunch and it takes 45 minutes to drive there and back, it doesn't leave you much time to order and eat, besides, it wasn't really worth the drive. I had ordered the Prosciutto on a bun, which was ok, but the one thing I can't stand about this or any other restaurant is the fact that when I order a sandwich, I'd like it to come with a drink, a salad, some fries, some olives, something on the side and not just a sandwich for ten bucks, thats ridiculous. For the time it took to drive up there, the time it took to wait for a lousy sandwich that costs $10+ and then another couple bucks for a drink, I'd rather have gone to McDonalds for one of their meals and gotten a hell of alot more for a few bucks less and a lot better taste. One thing I'll never forget, while we were waiting in line for our sandwiches, the one lady cook was making a veal on a bun and she sneezed all over the thing, didn't try to block it or move away from the food, nothing, it was fully on the veal....luckily enough for me, I didn't order the veal on a bun, but in any event, I won't be ordering anything from there ever again! Terrible

  • Order: Prosciutto on a bun & Coke

You are probably the only Mungi who goes to Paninoteca and orders a prosciutto sandwich and then complains about not getting a side. A prosciutto sandwich is not $10+ at Paninoteca. Also, you order the Veal or Chicken Parm when you go to Paninoteca.

  • meal-mates wanted italian. we looked up places on restaurantica that were close to us. reviews looked good. i was taking a chance that there was something vegetarian on the menu since all the reviews are about the meat sandwiches! but they had a yummy spaghetti with tomato sauce for me. nice spices and very flavourfull!
my companions very much enjoyed their veal sandwiches and both commented on the freshly made bread.

    service was excellent too!

  • Great that you get one free topping (California
Sanwiches could learn from here) but the mushrooms
were not very generous. Nice long sandwich on decent bread. Veal was pounded thin and breaded; one layer
on veal on one sandwich half; two on the other half.
Unfortunately, I bit into gristle on two occasions and
had to leave a piece of unchewable meat on the plate
(kinda gross but maybe a good unconscious message).
Kicks ass compared to Capris down town; very similar (without the gristle part) to Alfredos Pizza sandwiches. NIce people; let me eat there despite them obviously getting ready to close (it was before 7PM) & told me
to take their newspaper with me if I wanted it.
I'll try Goldies on Upper James next.

  • We absolutely love Paninoteco and have been going since they opened. The sandwiches are awesome and the prices are pretty good. My only complaint is that the ceaser salad is disappointing (made with only romaine and waaay too much dressing - no croutons or bacon or parmesan) and their hours are not the most convenient. They should open Sunday!!

  • Order: Ceaser salad, Veal on a bun, italian sandwich

  • Tony and Theresa make you feel as though you are part of the family and as I remember our family meals were always awesome as they are at Paniniotecca! Tyler Meyers...give your head a shake...Tony is the best there is! My Husband is a very picky eater and he is in love with the veal sandwiches. We live in Hagersville and he often asks me to go get a sandwich for him and bring it to his work! Keep up the great work...!
