  • i LOVE going to Hoya now that they have All You Can Eat. When you walk into the place you are greeted by every person in the place including the sushi chefs.

The food is absolutely amazing. I always order the Salmon cream cheese rolls. They are AWESOME!!! The miso soup is also fantastic and the avocado is always so fresh. The sashimi is also very good and with a hint of lemon.

The only problem i have with Hoya is that my drink rarely gets filled and i can never see the waitress sitting in the booths they provide so i never get water.
Also, the dragon rolls are way too big to fit in your mouth and you cant exactly take 2 bits out of them and Ice cream is charged. Every other place puts ice cream into the all you can eat.

Other then that i go to this place a ton and i love it.

  • Order: Salmon cream cheese rolls, miso soup, tempura, avocado rolls,

  • the last time i had japanese food until this visit was in tokyo, by the fish market a couple of months ago. while i know i was not going to get that sort of quality here in hamilton, hoya was pretty good.

hoya has been a hamilton mainstay for very many years. i took my wife here on our first valentines 10 years ago when we were still dating.. when i heard they turned into an AYCE, i was very surprised. i was afraid that the food quality was going to drop and it hasn't.

miso soup was delicious. roll portions are big. definitely eat there again. try the avocado dragon roll, the spider roll and sashimi. you won't be disappointed.

  • First of all, you most definately did NOT work there. How do I know? Because I work there and the previous co-workers definately don't know enough english to post on here, let alone make such a distasteful review.

The sushi chef does NOT make the rolls ahead of time, I have no idea what you're talking about. He makes it fresh as soon as it's ordered.

We throw away everything when the dishes come back. Your accusation is disgusting. Cockroaches? I haven't seen one yet.

I hope your happy making these wrongful accusations. You must have been fired for good reason.

  • I used to work at Hoya and some celebrities have visited Hoya such as Steven Segal and a drummer from Finger Eleven. So the place does have a solid reputation.

Korean food is excellent. Kan-pun-ghee is my favourite. Japanese food is okey. The sushi chefs keep the sushi bar very clean every day & night. They usually try to make california rolls ahead of time so I wouldn't call them fresh.

Kitchen...I've seen many things in there. To name a few, refrying the left-over tempura from the previous customer, and if tempura falls on the ground, they blow the dust away and serve it to the customer. I've seen other budget-conserving tactics. Also, I've seen cockroaches many times.

  • Located right in the downtown area where many "All you can Eat" sushi restaurants are located, Hoya is normally being considered more expensive than its competitors. Hoya's appearance may first drive you away, but the sushi's quality is higher than other sushi places just across the streets.

Hoya's menu include appetizers (tempura, Soft Crab), sushi combos ($11-$20), Dinner/Entree ($12-$14), maki/Handrolls, sushi a la carte, Noodles (Yakisoba, Udon, $8-$14), and Don Buri ($9-$14). Mosts sushi combos are at reasonable price (e.g. Sushi Combo C: 9 piece of sushi and 6 te-maki with miso soup for $14), but some sushi combo such as the "Premium Sushi" is priced at $20 and only gives you 8 pieces of sushi and 6 temaki with miso soup. The selection of sushi in this combo is very similar to that of combo C. Be ware, the Wakeme Sunomono salad tastes horrible.

Many sushi/sashimi selection at Hoya cannot be found at "All you can eat" sushi restaurants' : Hamachi (Yellow Tail), Ika (Squid), Hirame (Fluke), Hotatgai (Scallop), Toro (Tuna belly), Ikura (Salmon Roe), Tako (Octopus). A word of caution is that Hoya has not updated its menu recently so many items such as Awabi (Abalone) and Anago (Salt water Eel) are no longer available. Moreover, Uni (Sea Urchin) and Mirugai (King Clam) Sushi are often not availabe for order. Note: There is no different in the menu between Lunch and Dinner. The Sushi here is relatively fresh at Dinner (Caution: this does not apply to Lunch).

Hoya is also one of the Japanese/Korean Restaurant that has takeout and delivery. Nevertheless, delivery fee is $5 for downtown and $7 for Westdale. For each extra $10 on top of the first $10 that you spend, Hoya will pay $1 of the delivery fee on your behalf. On average, it takes about 45 minutes for delivery to arrive.

  • The maki was a bit loosely rolled but it was very tasty. The sashimi was good and fresh and not frozen. The service was excellent: smiley, friendly, welcoming and fast service. I am so releived to have found somewhere that serves eadible sushi in Hamilton, even if it is a Korean restaurant. I am from Toronto, and had almost given up on sushi in Hamilton.
