Review: The decor is a bit old but it's clean and there is a candle on ever table, I like that. The service was friendly, informative and professional. The food was great. The food was the best I've had in a while and certainly some of the top indian food ever. The 3 dishes we got were all very great, especially the soup. The naan was great too, another reviewer said it was bad, but he/she got it delivered - maybe it was old?
I recommend and would return for sure.

Review: The Dinner food was better than I thought. I am going to come to Gate of India all the time! They have to best food ever. If you want to go to a restaurant, go to Gate Of India Hamilton. Which is in downtown.

Review: I eat out quite often, and I have a love of Indian food that, unfortunately, is much more difficult to satisfy in Canada than in England (which in and of itself is quite surprising and a rarity). I therefore recently ordered some food from the Gate of India. The delivery was fine and everything arrives as described. Quite pricey, as is common for Indian restaurants in Canada. The papadum and the samosa were good, the pilau rice too. Unfortunately the chicken tandoori was really bland. The meat was rather cold and had an incredibly boring taste, and the spicy tandoori dressing was disappointing as well. Even worse was the garlic naan. Cold, watery, and disgusting. I was not able to try the gulab jamun. Unfortunately definitely not recommended. So far only the Mahal and the Modern Indian Buffet were OK in my own experience, but there are still quite a few in Hamilton that I have yet to try.

Review: Good Samosas! Main courses were acceptable, if mildly spiced for my tastes. Patak's canned sauces are about as tasty than what I was served. Still, very reasonably priced, and they do deliver.
Disturbing was the interruption of our meal by a deaf/mute panhandler! Considering our waiter's reaction it wasn't the first time she'd pulled that stunt. Location NOT a plus for dining out!
Still desperately missing Taste Of Taj Mahal. Why do the good restaurants always close!

Review: They were quiet today but that's par for the Indian course for weekday lunches. The decor is fine, the service prompt and friendly, the food was good and their prices seem very reasonable. I'll certainly be going there again.
- Order: I hd Dal soup, curried chicken with cauliflower and nan.I skipped the dessert. The owner told me they opened up in 1987 which has to a record in Hamilton. Of 13 Indian restaurants you list for Hamilton 6 or nearly 50% are now out of business

Review: WE enjoyed every bite of our meal - and brought some home too!
Restaurant was steadily busy and lots of people coming for take out meals also. Service was very good considering the waiter was being kept very busy. Prices very reasonable. - Order: Pakora, Onion Bhaji, Chicken Dupiazi, Lamb Madras, Pilau rice, Nan bread, Paratha. This restaurant does not have a liquor licence but serves a selection of interesting non alcoholic drinks.

Review: There was one other party of 2 people in the restaurant and our food took over an hour to arrive (right as we were getting up to leave actually). Regretfully, we sat back down and ate. The chicken was bland despite being supposedly cooked in the sauces. I had high expectations after deciding to visit this place after reading such great reviews on this site. Oh well. Must have been an 'off day'. Not going back though because of the service.

Review: Anyone who doesn't love the Gate clearly doesn't love Indian food. Easily the best Indian food in Hamilton (possibly the best service, too - there were two kids under 3 in our party, and they had at least as much fun as the rest of us!)

Review: The service was very attentive and the decor was very pleasant and serene. The temperature was cool. We came at a time when there were few people. There was only 1 other couple dining at that time. That made the dining experience enjoyable. Compared to many other Indian restaurants, G.o.I. is more balanced and has a subtle flavours. The dishes were well presented and portioned.
The prices were generally higher than other comparable Indian restaurants but well worth it. Complimentary chips whetted my appitite. And all the flavours seems to fit togethor like a jigsaw puzzle. The Chicken liver with salad was amazing. Perfect preparation of liver is truly a sign of an expert chef. One spicy dish and one savoury complimented the sides of rice and naan.
Everything was served in a timely manner which allowed some conversation time before the meal. Drinks were served right away and water was readily available.
Would recommend this restaurant for a finer dining experience and for those who want a fore into International cuisine.
