August 8

I went to August 8 for the first time, this sunday past.

I have to say, when we got there, before it got pretty busy, the Staff was pretty tolerant to my 'Best-guess' attitude, meanwhile the two people i was with already knew what they wanted! ahah.

it was my first time trying sushi, and i have to say.. i wasn't disappointed..!
The service got pretty slack when it got busy. Ex: we had to wait about half-an-hour for one dish.

overall, i think August 8 is alright

I found August 8 an amazing place to eat and enjoy meals at. The style of service is convenient, the food was dilectable, price was amazing for what you get and all in all great enviroment and surroundings I'd say. I will deffinately return to this amazing restaurant to enjoy their delicious asian foods.

Great place for university sushi!

I'm glad that this place opened up within range of a bus route to McMaster! I have nothing to say about the food that hasn't been said about this place already. Good food, quick service amidst a very busy dining room. Clean amenities, especially for a chinese/japanese mix restaurant. I especially enjoyed the gigantic salmon head; this was a great treat for me. The gross-out expression on some of the uninitiated guests were certainly funny when they brought it out.

Some points for concern: The restaurant is too cramped. Sometimes restaurants get greedy by filling too many tables in an establishment for a greater cover volume. Though this means more customers, this also means a lack of communication. I had to scream at the waiter/waitress a couple of times before they could hear me just because of the high volume. Traffic is also a nightmare in the dining area. There were a number of spills and mishaps all caused by the cramped walkways as well as blockages for people trying to pay their bill at the counter.

This is the best cheap sushi joint I've found in Hamilton. The combo of Chinese & Japanese is a bit weird, but since neither option is really authentic, it works.

The shrimp & chive dimsum was a fave, but I'd avoid the house roll (the fried roll featuring corn,) not the best option. The sashimi is also of middline quality, but with so many options on the menu, I don't rely on it.

I have been visiting Augst 8 since the grand opening and I would definitely consider my family and I regular customers.

The first time we visited our food was beautifully displayed with ornate garnishes all over our plate. However the last few time that we have visited the food has been subpar.

Our order are constantly incorrect, and the food looks as if it is just thrown on the plate. Our California Rolls have been missing some of the ingredients specially avocado.

I have recommended this restaurant to several people, and I worry that August 8 only worries about it's new customers and then takes its regular customers for granted.

Last week when visited the restaurant the couple sitting beside us were asked "Is this your first time at the restaurant?" Upon answering "yes" the girl nodded and returned with lavishly decorated plates, and food that was delivered faster, and with no errors. Where as I ordered before them and my food as I stated later looked as if it were thrown on the plate, and there were several errors in my order.

Overall the food at August 8 is amazing. But the food that I have been getting lately has been brutal. If August 8 keeps on treating its regular customers like this they will be depending on their "new customers"'. I am going to give August 8 1 more chance, if my food is still subpar I will not return.

I would love to see some reviews from some other "regular customers" who are feeling the same as myself.

As of March 11th, 2009, August 8 is STILL the best Sushi restaurant in Hamilton. In fact, it's the best one I've been to in Ontario (there was one in Vancouver that beat this...but that's not a fair comparison since they're by the ocean).

The first thing you'll notice is the decor. It's excellent.

The second thing you'll notice is the service. Fast, friendly and efficient.

Then there's the food. The presentation of their dishes is unheard of in an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant in Hamilton.

The quality of the food is superb. The pieces are small but what is important (in an all you can eat sushi restaurant) is the ratio of fish to rice. They've balanced it perfectly.

I love coming here. It will cost you about $25+ for a dinner with no extra drinks ordered. Obviously, it's not an economy meal. Still, it's an excellent treat.

I would and do recommend this to anyone who wants Sushi and I will continue to do so.

Their menu has a good variety. I recommend you try a bit of everything to find what you like the most.

My favourite would have to be the Rainbow Roll. But there are so many different things I eat I couldn't say I come here for any one thing.

If you look at any aspect of this restaurant individually you will love it. If you look at it overall, you will still love it!

After experiencing many sushi dim sum places in the area, August has come out on top for many reasons. The variety on the menu is so vast that it will please everyone. I read that many people made comments on the language barrier, but I don't find it to be a hindrance. They are lovely servers and because it is a buffet, who cares if they bring you something you didn't order. Try it and if you like it, you just added something to your pleasure palate that you wouldn't of thought to order. If not, there is no harm in saying it wasn't what you ordered and you aren't a huge fan :)

Bottom-line. Go and try it.

Love the decor!

My friends and I are from Brantford, so we drive the 20 minutes all the time, and we always come in groups of 5 or more. We come at least once or twice a month. It's great because some of my friends love Dim Sum Only, and the other half love Sushi Only. Fits us perfectly.

The servers don't speak a lot of english, but you know they are trying their hardest.

All You Can Eat Sushi + Dim Sum = MMMMmmmm

I recommend crab balls, even though they cost extra, and are not on the menu.

I found the overall experience excellent. i would highly reccomend this restraunt to friends and family. some downsides are that if you go when there are a lot of people, many orders get missed and mixed up, and the ones that do go thruogh take about 5 - 10 minutes. also, the staff don't speak english very well, but, they understand what you are ordering.

the enviroment was very modern clean and attractive. there are always people ready to take your order.

This is my favourite All-You-Can-Eat Sushi Restaurant!!!

I absolutely love this place, there is no doubt it is better than most other Sushi Restaurants in this area. They not only offer Japanese food but also Dim Sum on their menu. In addition, the atmosphere is beautiful. The decor and design of the restaurant is classy and modern. Even their tableware is noticibly nice. Also, I like the fact that when ordering, you mark off items on a sheet of paper and hand it to your waiter. This gets rid of the common problem of the staff not being able to undersand your English. I personally feel that at most Sushi Restaurants, the people that work there are not particularly friendly and even often rude. However, I think that the employees at August 8 are nicer than staff I have encountered at other Restaurants.

In relation to their food, I have no commplaints and I feel that they have each and everything that I have been served has tasted wonderful and delicious. They provide the widest variety of items on the menu compared to other places. They even have about 5 different kinds of dessert! Due to the mixture of Japanese food and Dim Sum, August 8 charges $2 dollars more than most establishments, but I think this is a small price to pay for a better experience. Also, They provide free parking.

This is the best sushi buffet restaurant (in every way). You won't be dissapointed!
