  • I find it amusing to read the positive reviews. This is typically a university type hangout during the school year....which is great. Other than that most people drop in after work have a beer then leave from my observations. The food sucks IMO. Service is worse, if possible. One particular bartender needs to find a new job as she has abolutely zero people skills fortunately she doesn't work much to my knowledge. Smart serve knowledge is non existent so don't bring children. The police should be patrolling parking lot more frequently as to see the drunks that drive out. Totally disgusting. Did I mention the bathrooms? Go before you go. I feel, in my opinion again any positive posts were written by Steph or Bob. I can't imagine a typical patron writing such. Many other places to go that are in waking distance of squirrel tooths that have more to offer in all aspects from food, cleanliness, price and service.

If you decide to venture over to Squirrely's once again, I do sincerely hope these issues are resolved. I once again apologize for the unpleasant experience.

  • I went to Squirrel Tooth Alice's about a month ago. They were having a "Battle of the Bands" type thing going on. My nephew is the drummer for one of the bands, so a crew of us went to support him. We arrived at 4:30pm. There were 13 in our group. We ordered drinks and dinner. We paid for our drinks and dinner, which came to well over $200.00. We then proceeded to run a tab for the drinks we were consuming, which was hefty, as we're a thirsty lot. The food was adequate. The waitresses were very pleasant, but the owner, who put a total damper, on an otherwise good time, was, and no doubt still is, a lunk-headed imbecile. Let me explain. After we had been in his establishment for over 6 hours, and dropped a significant amount of cash, he gave some of our seats away. There was a lot of 'up and down' going on at the table, as some went out for a smoke, to the washroom, to chat at another table, or to play some pool. It was when 4 of the lads, including 2 band members went to play pool, that the seats were given to others. He took beer off the table, and moved their coats. He never even asked if it was OK, which it wasn't. When I confronted him, he tried to claim the seats had been unoccupied for 1/2 an hour or more which was a crock of you-know-what. I read the front of the menu, regarding customer service, and how it's such a big deal to them. Either the owner should read and practice what he's claiming, or they should get rid of the B.S. spiel on the menu. No knowledge of how to treat customers. Period.

  • We were at squirrels last nite for the staff and regulars xmas party (invited by Bob & Stef) and let me tell you !!!! the food was fantastic and drink prices great and the way they treated there staff was totally overboard and generous and everyone looked like they were having a great time so I dont know who this "joker" is with the reviews but I dont know a more "down to earth " and "genuine" couple than these two owners!!!

it is hilarious how many people i have met around town who refuse to go to this unfortunately awesome location because of management.. you are your own worst enemies.

  • I, or We, feel Squirrel’s is a fabulous restaurant. Why? Because the food is always good and hot; the staff are friendly and accommodating; and the atmosphere is what a pub/restaurant should be, interesting and inviting.

Their breakfasts, and we have eaten breakfasts all over Guelph, bring us back morning after morning: the quality of food and the friendly atmosphere gets one’s day off to a great start.

Squirrel’s fits our comfort zone. A cross section from all walks of life, ages, and disciplines. At weekends the place bustles with University students, seniors, families, all relishing the atmosphere and good food. The friendly staff must take credit for knitting this diverse array of customers into a cordial gathering of diners; comfortable with each other’s presence.

Living in the South end of Guelph, we feel fortunate to have Squirrel’s on our doorstep.

Squirrel Tooth Alice – yours to discover.

  • I have been a long time Squirrely patron for my Saturday morning breakfast. What keeps me coming back is the friendly easy atmosphere, great staff, & competent hands-on owners. And of course the best Steak & Eggs ! I have often commented to the owner how he can provide such a great cut of meat, and portion size for what they charge. This is the quality & size of steak you would be very happy to receive at dinner at a "finer-dining" restaurant at 2x the cost. As they say, Steak ''n Eggs is the Breakfast of Champions !

  • Alice's is tucked away almost out of sight in a bland office plaza just off Stone Road at 649 Scottsdale Dr.. The exterior, for a sports bar/pub, is indistinguishable from the other businesses there. It's very easy to miss and that's a shame. This is one of the best eating experiences we have ever enjoyed and it has become our pub of choice whenever we're in Guelph. Any place that advertises "Warm Beer, Lousy Food" deserves notice, especially since that slogan is so very ironic. This is truly a "hidden gem".

Opened in 2000 and under new ownership since April 2007, this bar deserves a second look if you ate there in the early years and haven't been back since. You absolutely must return and experience the revived atmosphere and the extensive and creative menu.

The service is excellent. The welcome is open, cheerful, and sincere and on every visit I am remembered and treated as a returning friend. Menus come quickly, drinks arrive promptly, and the food is delicious.

About the food...breakfast is served all day starting at 8:00 a.m. and the menu offers a wide variety of options. My personal favourites are the corned beef hash with eggs, and the steak and eggs benedict.

The hash is made with real, recognizable chopped potatoes and generous amounts of diced corned beef cut from the brisket. This in no way resembles the usual porridge-like concoction found almost everywhere else, My steak in the steak and eggs benedict was grilled perfectly to order and was lean and tasty. While it was covered in a remarkable hollandaise, the sauce was not used to hide a flawed cut of beef, something I have experienced too often in other establishments. A sinful delight.

On the main menu, what stands out for me at lunch are the burgers and soups. Like all the food at Alices, all the ingredients are fresh and it shows in both the appearance and taste.

The soups are homemade in the best sense of the term. The beef vegetable soup and Piggy chowder I had were full of flavour, thick, and rich. Plenty of meat and chopped fresh vegetables. They were just like my grandmother's. True comfort food.

The burgers are the best I've had in any commercial restaurant. The secret is that each one is made fresh when ordered using lean, pure, ground
beef (a veggie burger is also available). The only binder is 1 cup of bread crumbs to 10 pounds of meat with 2 eggs, The spices are secret, the grilled flavour is great, the portion is a generous 8 ounces. Depending on the version and toppings you choose, eating can be a bit messy, but extra napkins are there for the asking and the taste experience is worth a little mess.

The bar has a good variety of premium and imported draft beers and an extensive drinks list, but not listed on the menu is a draft worth trying...Squirrelly Light, the house beer brewed for Alice's by Nicklebrook Brewery in Burlington, one of Ontario's better micro breweries. The draft is served in full Canadian 20 oz. pints and 10 oz. half pints not in the short U.S.16 oz. or odd 18 oz. "pint" sometimes found in other pubs.

On the whole, this is a pub that offers a great dining experience. The owners are rightly very proud of their food and the other improvements they have made since taking over ownership.

The chef can also be proud of the creative menu with new twists on old favorites made with fresh ingredients. The daily specials are often unique and not part of the regular menu so he gets to experiment each day. The customers are the beneficiaries. This is one of those special places for which the term "Gastropub" was created.

Lastly, if you have trouble deciding what to choose from the menu, just ask Steph. She hasn't steered me wrong yet.
