Sombat The Thai Guy

We went to Sombat to gain a comparison with Ben Thanh. Food was ok, nothing spectacular. Ben Thanh is full at 7 in the evening on a Saturday. This place was virtually empty.

Waiter was over fussy, and didn't seem to realise we hadn't gone there to talk to him. He put us right off going back. If you want Thai food in Guelph Ben Thanh is a whole better bet.

Amazing food. Service is pretty good, family owned and great decor. Spring rolls are hand made by the kitchen staff and are always a great way to begin. Ordered the drunken noodle at medium, delicious as always. I have been here many times before and it is quickly becoming one of my favourite restaurants in Guelph

While the decor and service may not be the most splendid, the food at Sombat completely and utterly makes up for it. My husband and I frequent Sombat for the Mango Chicken and Spicy Beef. Our 3 year old is right into the shrimp chips and peanut sauce and can't get enough of the shrimp starters. I highly recommend Sombat for the food, but if its ambience you're after - not the place.

I thought the food was HORRIBLE. The Rad Nar was so salty that I felt like it went all the way to my heart. The service was not the best, it was slow and we were the only people in there. The only good thing about the restaurant was the beautiful decor.

I have been a customer since it opened and remain loyal to them. Without knowing that I ordered the food, the food is always PERFECT. I am very familiar with Thai and asian foods and rate sombats as the top restaurant other than homecooking! They follow order specifications very well, and are such friendly people. Some of the new servers can be a little slow but with the FOOD you cant go wrong. Dont be fooled if its a little slow when you walk in, all food has been hot, great, and more than what was expected. The only warning is in terms of spicyness...they can make your dish very hot so warn them if you want it mild. IM ALWAYS IMPRESSED.

Well the 1st time we went there we figured it was a fluke that things were not great. So we came a second time. With all of these super reviews we expected a lot better.

Service was poor, lets be honest here, they may be trying hard, but the service is certainly sub-par. Pad Thai was sour, curry pork was ok, but seemed almost to be reheated. Spring rolls were terrible. lemon grass soup may have been the best thing we had.

There are just way to many better places in Guelph to recommend this spot. It seems to have a cult following I will give you that, but for us ladies from the U of G, we
don't plan on joining the cult. Stroked off the list !

Such great food. An undiscovered gem (hope it stays that way!!) Wish it was open Sundays...we tried another because Sombat was closed. Not even in the same league.

It's about time Guelph gets spicier! We orderred everything Medium expecting typical Guelph scale. It was pleasantly Hot! Food quality was excellent, fresh with great sauces in every dish. We orderred a number of dishes and shared. Great way to enjoy Thai food. We will definitly come back. Restaurant Atmosphere needs a bit of work to perk it up, but overall it was a good experience.

pad thai was too sour. service was too late.
