You have to go, It was great. They have ginnes in small glasses, and that is what I like. I had steak and kidney pie and my husband had liver and onions and the other girl had a chicken fahitas...we all got the kind of drinks we wanted the place was full but not noisy, I cannot say enough good things about this place and I'm not British...but with that being said I have travelled enough in British pubs and lived in them to know that this is a keeper and a good pub. Do yourself a huge favour on a night and enjoy the food as it is smashing ttfn

I will NEVER go back.
They don't take reservations on Friday nights, so we arrived early and asked for a table. The hostess said it would be a while, which is understandable for a big group. There was a large table free in the corner when we got there, which we thought would go to one of the groups in front of us once it was cleared. The place was busy but as they were keeping a list of people waiting for tables, we trusted that they'd do their best to find us a table in a reasonable time.
We waited at the bar, watching people grab every table that came free, as the staff made absolutely NO effort to free up tables for all those who were waiting politely as asked. The staff actually SERVED DINNER to people who'd stolen tables, effectively condoning that behaviour.
On security cameras, we saw staff go to a big EMPTY room (which was closed, although the pub was terribly busy) and smoke cigarettes, despite that being illegal.
After two hours that big table we'd seen when we got there was still empty, so we sat down despite the "reserved" sign. Staff immediately said that we couldn't sit there as it is reserved EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT for a soccer team that's been going there for 20 years and that's friends with the owner. They insisted that we needed to wait for a table, but it was clear by that point that we wouldn't get one and that they were making ZERO effort to help us get one.
It was bad enough to not get a table, but it was incredibly insulting to be asked to continue to wait for one when they were doing NOTHING to help us get resolution. If they'd bothered to police all tables as closely as they policed their precious soccer team's table, we would have been seated by that time.
The manager came out and was INCREDIBLY rude about it, again offering no solution. We were so angry that we finished our drinks and left rather than give them any more of our money. If I hadn't prepaid my drink (which I'd gotten from the bar), I wouldn't have even paid for it, I was so disgusted.

Very cozy traditional English pub serving traditional English fare
On weekends expect a loud busy bustling pub we have had to wait a few times as it gets verrry busy. Service has been very fast but they tend to ignore you once you've gotten your food. They have a great menu ranging from fish and chips, cornish pasties, and banger's and mash; to quesadillas chicken wings and ceaser salads.
They also boast an extremely diverse beer selection; they must have at lest 10-15 on tap all very good, the menu even has a page devoted to beer giving descriptions etc.
This is definitely a great place to grab a bite if your looking for a bustling weekend brunch or dinner or possibly a quiet weekday meal (havn't been in this time) - Order: Steak sandwich, Bangers&Mash, Fish&chips, beeeeers

DON'T GO!!!
We had reservations for about 15 people, but when we arrived, there was only 1 girl serving the entire restaurant. Needless to say, it was 3 hours before we had meals. We were ignored, the food was cold, the place was dirty and poorly organized. Not impressed. - Order: chicken wings, beer, wrap with steak, mashed potatoes

This used to be one of our favourite pubs in town to eat!! I don't know what has happened, but the dinner we had there recently was extremely disappointing...it was a Tuesday night, the place was busy..but I could not believe the poor quality of food that was presented to us.
I ordered the Reuben sandwich, told the waitress I loved sauerkraut, please and thank you, and I got a sandwich that had NO sauerkraut on it and the meat was thick and fatty. Yuck....The steak and mushroom pie that used to be just awesome had not much gravy with it ..the meat was tough and the mushrooms too few.
The beer was fine :)
It is almost like the ownership has changed or they are in trouble...it was just not up to par at all...
Since we drive across town to go here, we will definitely think twice about eating at Shakespear's anytime soon.....

The roast beef was excellent as were the mushrooms. The mashed potatoes could use some help but all round a pretty good meal for "pub fare". Service was pretty good but not stellar.

Went for lunch on a whim. Dining room was empty so fast service was somewhat expected. This didn't happen sadly. It took close to 20 minutes for one burger to be made.
The burger was delicious and the fries very crispy and hot. The server arrived 10 minutes later to check if everything was alright.
As I finished, the rest of the dining room began to fill. I sat for another 5 minutes after being finished before the server came by and asked if I was ready for my bill. Not the best service I've ever had, but definitely not the worst I've had there.

The food probably is decent, providing you received it when it was hot... not cold as ours was.The food for a pub was nothing near what i have come to expect. In particular if it is fish you want you are better off walking across the parking lot to the other establishment where their fish is quite good. As for the service she was pre-occupied and was near impossible to find. Overall everything that could go wrong did, maybe next time they'll realize we are paying customers too and you can actually earn our business.

The soup was excellent, lots of different flavours to entice the taste buds. The fish was also excellent - the fries not so much.
