Samura Japanese Restaurant

I had heard Samura had some of the better Japanese food in Guelph; I have had sushi at every japanese restaurant in Guelph but had yet to try this place. From the outside (and inside) it doesn't look all that appealing, and the service was subdued and slow, but the food is excellent. Fresh, made to order, and delicious!
We had the salmon maki, and asked if he could make it spicy (as spicy tuna and spicy scallop maki were options on the menu but not spicy salmon) and he said that was no problem. It was SPICY!
Also had the dynamite roll, crispy and delicious!
Split a vegetable and prawn tempura order, this was last to arrive and it was piping hot and crispy and there was a good variety of vegetables (i think it was yam, zucchini, carrot). Overall i was very impressed by the food and prices.

If you're looking for great ambiance and kiss @ss overly-attentive waitresses this is not the place. We weren't greeted when we came in, and we weren't fawned over...but who cares, the food was great

it's not bad for a small restaurant, and I would definitely come again. I like the rolls, but the noodle wasn't the best.

Very impressed with this small restaurant. If you are looking for flash you will not find it here... If you are looking for very good sushi then you have found your spot. the dynamite rolls were amazing and we had to order more.... could have stayed and eaten all night.

Tuna was too old and not properly stored. Served room temperature, actually vomited. Food safety and sushi should go hand in hand.

Low-key place but so far the best Japanese I've had in Guelph. Bento Box at lunch is amazing value and they have good takeout specials if you like rolls. Tempura was way too greasy and dynamite rolls are too big to eat cleanly but taste great. Service is existential- your pop comes in the can and you pour it yourself; waitress seldom checks on the table after serving the food and you get one napkin per person. Awesome vegetable rolls and a good selection of cooked food for those who aren't "into" sushi/ sashimi/ raw fish.

Spider rolls had too much mayo in them. The dragon rolls are awesome. The butterfish was amazing but the california rolls not so much. I have ordered in the past for delivery and they forgot my order completely I was very upset as I am a regular. However, eating in ...their service is wonderful.

We came for lunch with a party of 6 - two had to leave because the service was so slow. The food was good when we got it but the service was terrible.

One starter was brought to the table with no utensils. 15 minutes later one entree arrived with the napkins and chopsticks. 10 minutes went by and we finally got our water. Over the next ten minutes the rest of the entrees came as well as the stater for the gentleman who was served first.

We had to ask for the bill at the end of the meal.

Overall I would say if it wasn't for my love of sushi and the fact that it is the only Japanese Restaurant close to my work I would not return.

The food was excellent but the service was a bit slow. The employees were very helpfull and kind.

Eating here brought back fond memories of trips I have taken to Japan. Food and atmosphere were wonderful. Their takeout sushi was very popular at a recent party.
