Red Papaya

the servers seemed like they were sedated..all of them..didnt ask for our drink order..mumbled instructions for ordering..didnt get drinks until after food arrived..waited 20 minutes after food was wrapped up to get bill from the aloof server wandering around..not worth the aggravation!

I have been a regular customer of Red Papaya for at least three years. I have had a string of bad experiences at the restaurant lately and the last experience was the final straw for me. When we arrived at the door to be seated, we were ignored for atleast 5-10 minutes as staff talked amongst themselves behind the counter. When we were finally greeted (without so much as a smile), we were told the wait may be 15-20 mins. which was fine. While waiting for our spot, the hostess seated another couple who had just arrived without even making eye contact with us again for the next few minutes. We left and will not be back again. The wait staff is much too irresponsible and show very little interest in their job. A very frustrating experience. I

I used to be a big fan of this place and loved the food and thought the service was adequate. Last time I was here was a couple months ago, but with today's visit, I can tell the place has changed, and not for the better.

First of all, they moved the plants and tables around, and arranged them in an awkward way. Maybe they're still working on it.... The service was barely there. We were there in the late afternoon so there weren't many people there. Yet with 3 people working the front room, I swear, they were more interested in cleaning tables than serving our table.

The food was ~ok~ but definitely not as good as before. The sauce used for the eggplant was really oily (I could see the oil separated from the red paste). My boyfriend didn't really like his curry beef and said it didn't taste like much, and that he liked his curry dish at Ben Thahn because they had coconut flavoring in it.

Anyways, we won't be going back anymore since it seems like maybe there's new management and things have gone down hill.

The layout of the restaurants was alright, I've been to this restaurant for 3 years already and since we went yesterday, I decided to write something about it. They charge for tea. TEA!...That's all I want to say

This is a really nice place, nice decor, bright and clean. We had only one criticism of the service... that our main courses came out a few minutes apart. The waitress was very friendly. Shrimp rolls were excellent and peanut sauce a little sweeter than other places (which I preferred). My partner was not overly impressed with his mango stir-fry (it was good but not extraordinary) but we both thought my pad thai was amazing. I will definitely return and order that again! There were lots of choices, even for someone who is gluten-intolerant, like me.

So in being an avid evening outer, I used to love this place when it was more like the golden basil. Then some people moved in with some shrubbery stuck in places
I can't mention and the show went to the dumps. The food is fantastic....most of the time (when my one colleague vomited outside the door after because of soup the clerk needed to be reminded to bring him 4 times) I love the food don't get me wrong....but the service is not worth my dime. I won't be going back and this is because the people running the place need to learn to smile, take care of the customers and most importantly don't roll your eyes when customers come in half hour before you officially close because you want to go home and play video games.

I know it's a mix of cuisines, Thai, Vietnamese, whatever...I like having it all in one place anyway :P

The servers are sometimes a little slow, they're all quite young and generally a little apathetic. But the food is awesome, that's really what keeps me coming back. I prefer to call ahead for take out than dine in, since dining in takes forever because of the slower service at times.

I came on a monday night....food was excellent! I've been here before way back when they first opened and I must say that their food is better than ever! From what I remembered when they first opened, the girls who work at Red Papaya were very friendly. But when I visited there recently, our server was a blah. And on top of that the two other girls he was working with were the ones coming to us and helping us. I think we saw him only once when he dropped off our pad thai nonchalantly. He doesn't say anything and just puts it on the table...wow man, I don't know how you got this job. Anyway, I feel bad for the 2 girls working with him, they work hard. Well, guess we'll have to come by again when he's not working.

You can trick most of the people in Canada. But not us, we know Vietnamese, Thai or Indochinese food.
Make up your mind, DO NOT MIX IT UP. You are making bad name for them all.
By the way, your "Thai" food is truely not Thai period. However your Vietnamese' Pho is not bad.
Why don't concentrate on your vietnamese food.

This place was rather quiet for a Thursday lunch time. Service was very good, very prompt. Soup was excellent and very flavourful. The noodle dish was nice, but needed a kick. Fortunately, there was sufficient hot sauce available on the table to make amends. Will return.
