Golden Fish & Chips

Great light batter, not greasy. The fish was very tasty, and it's a good portion. My fave F&C shop now. And it's the only one I know that has salmon around here. Not fancy but ... it's a F&C place! As another review commented, the lady (owner?) struggles in English, but always has a ready smile, and she tries. Often an older crowd, but there are several senior's facilities, condos & residences in the area. Never been disappointed in a meal there, and will definitely go back.

We went in for a sit- down meal but one look at this place made us decide to take out. It was very cold and drafty- some people were eating in with their coats on! Also, didn't look very clean to me and decor was typically run-down Guelph. They also shut the horrible vertical blinds so you couldn't even see outside even though it was light outside. At first, I felf the food was Ok but then, both my husband and I after taking a swig of beer were overcome with a strong cod liver oil taste in our mouths- we almost got sick. Gave the rest to the dogs. Was typical prices for this fare but they didn't even give us coleslaw with the meal. Wouldn't return when Captain jack's is so much better and clean and warm.

I may not remember the exact date, so I estimated, however, I will always remember the one and only experience. The (probable) owner was in a flap since the girl who should be serving had called in sick again-we probably didn't need to know that. We ordered two fish and chips, and two orders of bread and butter. The place was kind of funky, and really needed a cleaning. The bread, when it had arrived was probably frozen, and thawed in the microwave-yuk, we didn't complain, but couldn't eat it. The food was memorably awful, as was the service. Where have all the good fish and chip places gone? Probably cardiac heaven.

We had the Fish & Chips. Nice size portions. Coleslaw was good.
Price was good as was service.

Some of the best fish & chips I've ever eaten. Halibut was succulent, white and delicious. Fries - I'm pretty sure some of the time they are the "real" thing - fresh cut, but on occasions have seemed like frozen. Stick with the fresh!!!!!!!! Don't disappoint us!!!!!

The jumbo shrimp were very tasty and about 10 on the order (shared by two people) made for a scrumptious appetizer.

What happened to the hot apple pie with caramel and whipped cream ... it is one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. Need a dessert (even a bowl of ice cream would do).

The batter is so light and the fish is not greasy. The chips are fresh and don't taste frozen.

Decor is basic, but the food was very good. Excellent halibut, light batter, not greasy. Fresh-tasting chips too.

The fish is always light and crispy and never greasy.

We really enjoyed the food. I don't know how they make such a thin and crispy batter. You sould see that golden coloured halibut... The reviewer below said it was greasy... No way, I believe you are wrong. It couldn't be better.
