  • After finding this place on this web site I had to go try it. So my wife went to Guelph to try it out. We walked in and my wife was grossed out but I told her to give it a chance and she trusted me. This place is ugly inside. The chairs make you feel like they are from the 70's. The service is a tad slow to start. All of a sudden the place was packed with older diners (they know the good places). We had the grilled callamari, imperial roll, dumplings, 1 glass of win and a tiger shrimp spinach salad. Everything was great. Then I had to have the lemon pie - wow wowo wowo. overall I spent $60 which was still worth it. the chef was kinda rude but the food is great

  • A small family run business, the food was great! The menu has a nice international feel and the spring rolls were fantastic! Love resaurants where the kitchen is right in your view. The atmosphere is very dated, but if you can get over that, the food was good!

  • Order: Spring rolls, fish, dessert

  • Last night my boyfriend and I stopped in at Friends in Our Kitchen for a bite to eat after work. We have been coming to Friends for sometime and have always been thrilled with the friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, and wonderful food. Everything at the restaurant is homemade with food being prepared fresh to order by owner/chef Ging.

With it being "Dig in Downtown" I opted for the special menu, which featured your choice of appetizer (butternut squash and ham hock soup or Asian grilled quail), entree (braised honey garlic beef ribs or fried haddock with black bean sauce on zucchini noodles – both entrees with your choice of side), dessert (pumpkin pie or chocolate caramel sea salt tart), and coffee or tea. (Just as a note this dig-in menu will be running for the next two weeks on Tuesday and Wednesday – I’m hoping to get back for the beef ribs!)

My quail was done to juicy perfection served with grilled beets, homemade picked diakon and a wedge of lemon. The haddock entrée was also perfectly done – the flaky fish was delicious with the pungent black been sauce, perfectly cooked vegetables and zucchini noodles. As a side I opted for sweet potato fries, which were a tasty addition to my entrée. For dessert I had the chocolate caramel sea salt tart, which was fantastic! Not to big and not to small filled with creamy smooth caramel, topped with sweet chocolate and sprinkled with just a touch of sea salt.

My boyfriend wasn’t feeling too hungry so he opted for one of Ging’s imperial rolls filled with seasoned pork, chicken and napa served with homemade plum sauce and a chicken Caesar salad. The Caesar was lovely, tossed in a homemade garlicky Caesar dressing, topped with homemade croutons and bacon bits, and a freshly grilled breast of chicken.

Other favoured menu items include: pork dumplings, vegetarian spring roll, grilled squid, braised lamb shank, steamed halibut, grilled catfish, honey garlic baby back ribs, chicken curry and any of Ging’s homemade desserts!

  • Order: 1. dig in downtown special menu - grilled asian quail, fried haddock with black bean sauce and zucchini noodles, chocolate caramel sea salt tart 2. imperial roll, grilled chicken caesar salad

  • get it while they still have it on the board!!! thinking about it makes my mouth water. The only reason why i gave the food a 9 and not a 10 was because i found the topping sauce and soup a bit too salty. The soup was excellent too... besides the saltiness, it had just the right amount of barley, veggies, maybe it could've used a bit more pieces of beef.

the service was great. Our waitress was always there to fill our waters and take additional orders. she was really friendly and amiable.

It's a "cozy" and "intimate" atmosphere. Might make a nice date place.

  • Order: beef barley soup, lamb shank

The food is simply amazing and it is a pure delight to be able to watch as the chef prepares fresh meals for the entire restaurant. I am looking forward to my next visit...there's a party in my tummy just thinking about it. Highly recommended!

  • This is another one of my not so great yet not too bad experiences. When we arrived, we got seated immediately so that was good. however, it took close to 20-25 minutes for our food to arrive. the chicken was a bit overdone however the pie was great. overall, the service and food both could have been a bit better. Lets see what happens next visit.

  • Order: chicken, coconut pie and drink

  • Friends in Our Kitchen is by far my families favourite place to eat in Guelph. The restaurant is cozy, with wooden tables, ceramic s&p shakers and the kitchen looking on. Ging's kitchen is open so diners are welcomed to stop by and see what's happening in the kitchen. The restaurant is also filled by the foods wonderful scent.

The food at Friends is all made from scratch and each meal is made to order and it certainly shows. Our appetizers were served with Ging's home-made bread (try to have just one!). Ging's tender, pan-fried pork-filled dumplings are perfectly accompanied with a sweet peanut sauce. His crispy springroll is filled with noodles and vegetables and a tangy plum sauce- a vegetarian's delight. The tomato salad has always been a family favourite.

The entrees are always delicious as Ging uses fresh and good quality ingredients. All of the entrees are served with beautifully presented, and seasoned vegetables and a choice of either sweet potato fries, herb coated potato wedges, lemon-dill potatoes or basmati rice.

Ging's desserts are to die for. His chocolate is light and creamy but a family favourite has always been his coconut cream pie. The pies at this restaurant are served as little individual pies. The delicious shell is filled with a coconut custard cream and topped with whipped cream and toasted coconut. We also enjoy Ging's home made ice cream selection. Heavenly!

The service at this restaurant is attentive and friendly. The owners are willing to accomodate to dietary issues and so much more. The restaurant is very clean and the food is reasonably priced (it only adds up because we can't help but try everything).

This is a wonderful restaurant that everyone should try out!

  • Order: Tomato salad with fresh basil, vegetarian spring roll, imperial roll, ging's dumplings with peanut sauce, fresh lemon & pepper grilled catfish, honey garlic baby back ribs, beef tenderloin, chicken souvlaki, coconut cream pie, turtle tart, french cream pie, chocolate cheesecake.
