Cagneys Ribs & Chicken

Me and my husband went to Cagneys and had a superb time. The portions were very large and the food was absolutely excellent. i enjoyed the peppercorn chicken rigatoni, which was delicious and my husband ordered a steak and scalloped potatoes, which he says was fantastic. Of course we both shared the famous Caesar salad, which I am told the regulars swear by, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Our server was extremely pleasant and very attentive to all of our needs, plus we were able to have a good laugh together. I have read reviews which mention the decor is out-dated and such, but it really wasn't a bother to me or my husband because the atmosphere more than made up for it. Cagney's was warm and friendly, and, though a bit outdated, still retains a classic charm that we were able to relate to. And the stain glass was just stunning! Overall, me and my husband both feel that Cagney's is a true town treasure. We will most definitely return!

We had a disappointing visit to this restaurant. We had hopes that it would be good but the food was not good and the service was unfriendly. The place is very old and feels very dated.

I remember as a teenager this was one of my favorite restaurants in town. I haven't been in probably seven years but coming back I was completely dissapointed. The atmosphere is old and stale. It hasn't changed in 15 years. The menu and food hasn't changed either, and it's not as good as I remember.
The appetizers were good (bit expensive but whatever). The entree was VERY mediocre given the price. My steak was cooked nicely but unseasoned (not even pepper) and tasteless. The scalloped potatoes were gross and the vegetables were from a bag or something. Unless big changes are made there I will not go again.

It is old old old and the food was terrible,would not go back would not take anyone. And get this the bill was way tooooo high. Plus it was cold...just a bad choice all round. Came home and ate ya paid for food that was terrible Two had the chicken breast, one chicken wings (really bad) and one the fish & chips....but forget this place. Just not good and way too pricy. Needs to get out of the 70's.

OK..I agree that Cagney's could use a facelift in the decorating department - but the food and the service are still pretty good and there are not a lot of places to get a decent steak in Guelph. The garlic mushrooms that come with the steaks are excellent; as are the portions and food overall, in our opinion.
The service was excellent as well..the server was pleasant, prompt and non-intrusive.

We will go back and I suggest that you give it a try..the decor isn't great...but it's really not as bad a place as has been portrayed here. Again, just our opinion.

The place smelled musty, was dingy and in disrepair.
The steak was cooked properly, but it was tough.
Very few people there on a Friday for lunch. On the upside the service was polite and fast.

the food was really good, however i didnt feel very well after. The portion sizes were average for what you pay for. The restaurant itself, is very quaint, and the staff really takes care of you!

The food was (as usual) very good. The service (Larissa) was beyond great. We dine here fairly frequently, and are always happy with the food.This time the server exceeded our expectations, and really made our visit exceptional

People who write about being blindsided with special menus must not go out much. New Year's Eve, Mother's Day are two of the big day's that 99.9% of all restaurants have special menus. If this offends so many people, maybe when they make reservations on these day they should ask about the menu, instead of complaining about it after the fact.

We went for my husband's birthday and I have to say we had a lovely dinner and the service was friendly. We will be back.

Our boss is changing jobs, so we (his office staff) took him to Cagney’s for a send-off lunch. It was a catastrophe from the start. To begin with, we are a large group 20 – 25 people; a long table was set up to accommodate the entire group, which was acceptable. Our complaint is not with the food being mediocre or the room being badly lit or the out dated wall coverings or even the tattered, grubby carpet…our complaint is about the disgusting, inexcusable, appalling service we received from our waitress Marisa.
Not a smile, a friendly word, nothing, zilch, zero!
She was nasty and rude! She grumpily served our table slapping our meals down in front of us as if we were an enormous inconvenience to her. When one person mentioned they had not ordered the meal she plunked down in front of them, she gruffly grabbed the plate and plunked it down in front of the person who had ordered it. One lady received a large salad instead of the side salad she ordered, when mentioned to Marisa that the order was incorrect, she snapped back “ that’s what you ordered” Instead of an I’m sorry, or something similar, Marisa made us all feel very ill at ease. I ordered a Greek salad, which I sent back as the lettuce was old and brown. I was given another salad which was slightly better.
Each and every person at the table felt as our waitress was pissed off with having to serve us. What should have been a terrific goodbye lunch for our darling boss was instead appalling. To top matters off, Marisa recklessly plopped our bosses meal on the table and in doing so knocked over his beer and dumped his lunch in his lap. What a mess!!! Our sweetheart of a boss, with food all over his shirt and pants. I was sitting two places away from him and I did not hear “I’m sorry” once from Marisa. Another wait staff came over and cleaned up the beer and food from the table. Marisa had just walked away leaving her to clean up. Unbelievable!!!.
We paid our bills, however when one lady requested change back (four dollars) Marisa irritably, slapped the change on the table…that ill-chosen display resulted in Marisa NOT receiving a tip from that lady plus a few others. In addition, my boss was still charged for his meal. One would think as an apology, his meal would have been “without charge.”
We will never go back to Cagney’s!! From start to finish, our service was appalling
