  • I live, literally, around the corner. So I had to try out the local restaurant. Never again.

I had some schnitzel (tasteless and not fresh) with spaetzle (seriously, the worst I've ever had). My friend had a rack of ribs and her jaw got tired from chewing after just two ribs (ya, they were that rubbery).

On the plus side - the salad bar was good (I'm trying to find something positive...).

I'm a 2 minute walk from this place but it's not worth the walk.

  • The only items we enjoyed at this very well known Inn, was the coffee, tea and dessert. Everything else seemed like it was heated a few times over.
Omelet - no flavour; pigs tails - dried out; nothing looked very appetizing. The food used to be excellent, but it seems to have gone downhill.

  • Being Oktoberfest, we thought it would be nice to dine with a local German restaurant. By no means a critic, I offer no pretense other then I make all efforts to avoid industrial grade themed restaurants, but have dined in many varied places domestically and internationally (and have a European heritage). It's the first time I've even offered a review. Maybe more of a public service.
It was a buffet. The attempted German part was as follows: schnitzel that was soggy and bland ("awful" from my little critic who grew up on this), sausages that were decent but could be found at any roadside cart, sauerkraut that came from a jar, dill potatoes that were reasonably attempted - falling somewhere between edible and good and a "Pig's Tail" that was the only vestige of anything ethnic and to which my wife exclaimed her pleasure. So, the preceding is your only tie to anything German; merely a haphazard afterthought to support the sign on the door and to entrap those who seek such fare.
As for the rest; basically meat and potatoes; such as a couple of roasts, amputated chicken parts, boiled processed veggie mix (like to say "medley", but this would be an insult to both musicians and vegetables), O yes, a lasagna so repulsive it even stole any tastes from the foods stationed close by. The mashed and Parisian potatoes offered as sides where similar to what you'd find in a homeless shelter. There was a salad bar with ingredients that were akin to what resides in a grocery dumpster. The presentation of this salad bar made me think a 1970's rec room room. A reasonable attempt was made at a pasta bar. I can not speak to the pasta bar as I was so turned from the other offerings, I was hesitant to try it, but it looked OK.
Now for the deserts. Glorious! A wide variety of fresh cakes that were delicious. Such an amazing contrast to the disaster that was the meal. Perhaps I've over valued the dessert because of the contrast, (i.e. a decent doughnut may have offered a redemption of sorts). However, it would be right to concede this poor place the desserts.
Service was cafeteria like; not bad, not good, just there.
The atmosphere was fest-hall like and comfortable. I did have some concern of the cleanliness of the dishes and cutlery as throughout the evening my shirt sleeve was well in action.
As for overall value, it was the most expensive dessert that I've ever had.
I mean no ill will to this establishment. However, people should know of my experience for the following reasons:
First, this place is not cheap. It would be heart-breaking for any family of modest means to bare such an exceptional cost for a birthday, anniversary, or any event and experience such a horror.
Second, being from the community, I feel an ambassadorial duty to the unique Germanic heritage to the Kitchener region. If you are an outsider and read this, do not go here, it is not ethnic cuisine, it does not reflect in any way upon the very many excellent Regional places you can go to dine for amazing German and European food.
Third, I feel ripped off for the price I paid and since no one asked at the restaurant about the meal, this little critique I consider to be"value in kind" for the miserable and embarrassing experience.
Overall, if you want volume from an all-you-can-eat cafeteria buffet, then go. If you are from out of town, enjoy ethnic food, or expect a little quality and taste for your money, then stay away.
    Thank You

  • Very plain food. The schnitzel seemed pre-made & frozen. The beef goulash was overly beefy, lacking in flavour and variety.
Nothing special about this restaurant other than a nice atmosphere.
