Smittys Pancake House

Smittys seems like a tired place these days. The food is just "o.k." We went there on a Sunday brunch and the variety and quality of the buffet was just not there. Lots of starches/blah veggies/blah presentation. The staff just seem to want to get you in and get you out.
Probably our last time there.

We visited Smitty's in Chatham last evening on our way home to London from a visit to Windsor, where we were introducing our two week old granddaughter to her great grandmother. It was a beautiful day, and fortunately our not so nice experience at Smitty's did not tarnish our day, but it did tarnish their reputation. This has been my husband and my midway stop for years, but the past two visits, the experience has been below average. Yesterday's experience was our last at Smitty's. Our 18 month old grandson was with us along with his mom and dad and his two week old baby sister. Our grandson was well behaved and quiet. He was brought a high chair and we were given 4 adult menus. There were no children's meals on the menu, which suprised us but we assumed there must not be a children's menu at Smitty's or our waitress would have brought one. My daughter had a bit of leftover lunch for our grandson, so we asked if we could order him a small plate of vegetables and were told they only had green beans available. We ordered that. Our waitress passed our table a few minutes later and I asked " Do you not have a children's menu here?" Her dry reply was "Uh huh" and she looked at me like I was expecting the moon. I asked her to please get us one to look at. She slowly left our table and eventually brought the children's menu back to me, then left. Next time we saw her (about 15 minutes later), she was dropping our adult meals at the table. I was upset, glared at her and asked "How long will it take you to have a mini pizza and fruit meal prepared for the little one?" She said "pretty quick". I sternly said "Please do so". We started our meals (ahead of his arriving at the table about 10 minutes later). We shared bits of our food with him while he waited. It was upsetting enough, but she didn't even seem to recognize that she had dropped the ball and offered no apology. A so what attitude. It was interesting that on a Tuesday night at 7 p.m. there were only 3 tables being served the entire time we were there. We won't go back to Smitty's in Chatham and surely can find a nice family restaurant who's staff appreciate and welcome Grandma, Grandpa, Mom and Dad, Toddler Son and Infant Daughter.
I will review the many restaurants here for our future stops through Chatham.

I would maybe recommend going there for breakfast but I am sure even then there are better restaurants out there for breakfast. like McDonalds. Wouldn't suggest going there for Dinner.

Decent service, decent food, nothing special, best feature is the amazing amount of choices on the menu

Smitty's is amazing. I have been coming here for years. I don't live in Chatham anymore but when I come home to see family it is the place to go.
I love everything, simple, good quality and amazing prices.
Crepes are actaully the best, but this time I had simple scrambled eggs and they don't disappoint.
