  • My Husband and I really enjoyed the food here. everything seemed to be hot and fresh. Maybe during the slow times the food is not as fresh which happens at all buffets. I thought the selection of food was great. Desserts could have been better. My major issue with this restaurant is the fact that they do not take debit, and I know exactly why they don't, and they are so quick to tell you to use the ATM that gouges you for $1.50 not to thrilled with this. Also I found this place to be pricey for what you get, almost 60$ on a bill with no alcohol I know prices are different for weekends but my goodness the food was not that good. I am not sure if I will return as I can dine in at another restaurant for a few more dollars and get a better meal and be able to enjoy a glass of wine with my meal.

  • I concur. We used to go all of the time and always found it to be a good experience. Now the food is disgusting - covered in a film from sitting under a heat lamp for too long. Kitchen workers come out and turn the food around with a spoon to make it look fresher. It's awful. The last time we were there we walked out and never went back.

  • Used to bring family and friends when this place was first open. Last time we went (abouta week ago), we were deeply disappointed. The place seemed 'dead', not a friendly face greeting us. Food that used to be plentifulland lush now is stale looking, cold and uninteresting.
Don't know what happened to that bustling busy place with smiling waitresses. Too bad

  • On the Chinese buffet scale, this restaurant is near excellent.

The food selection was good. Most of the standard Chinese buffet items were present. There was a good selection of meat and vegetable items. Only one noodle dish, and one rice (vegetable fried). Lots of fruits and desserts. The freshness was great.

As someone else mentioned, there was an impressive collection of dim sum items. While the dim sum items were not of the highest quality, they were not bad at all considering it was a buffet restaurant.

Service was excellent. Very polite and attentive. Decor wasn't bad. The place is very clean. I hate to sound like a snob (we've had plenty already) but one definite minus was that some of the other patrons were of the hairy, out of shape, muscle-shirt wearing variety who openly burped and stared at other tables.

It is true that they only accept cash and credit cards, and that they have an ATM next to the counter. Lack of debit availability is a minor irritant considering the quality of this place.

Order 2 pops with free refills worth the price. Dad loved the food, better than average Canadian Style and I love sweet watermellon(ate 9 slices)-food was Ok.

  • I posted a review of this restaurant quite a while ago - it now appears to be gone - I think I deleted when I was attempting to adjust our location in our member info section.

Anyways, I just saw Falstaff's response, and I had to laugh.

Let me see if I get this straight? I call out the restaurant for 1. not offering access to a debit machine and instead making customers who want to use electronic payment use an on site ATM, for a $2 service charge ( and this machine was out of order) and for closing service early, even after sitting our party.....

...and Falstaff's response - part of an arrogant and ill informed missive fairly dripping with 'class'-ism - is to call us morons, vagrants and razor backs, and use a reference to a 15 year old TV series as an insult to drive home his point. Uh huh. And who is out of touch?

Frankly, I have the right to be displeased that the restaurant started shelving their service before the stated closing time and that they did not provide access to a standard payment option.

If a restaurant says they will be open to a certain time, a paying customer has a right to expect that he or she will receive full value and service up until that time. If the establishment is going to offer less then full service, it seems only fair to me that they let you know and charge less then full price. Neither happened in this case.

What did happen was that almost as soon as we were seated is that many of the buffet sections were removed and had cellophane put over them.

As for the lack of access to debit...if you run a service business today how can you not offer access to debit? The restaurant has an on site ATM that customers can use to withdraw cash - at a hefty premium. If the restaurant can install an ATM, they can install a debit machine.

I am happy for Falstaff that he had the opportunity to " have owned and operated two full service restaurants both of which were consistently reviewed favourably by the media...sold these businesses back in the late 1980's for profit".

It is fortunate for both himself and the dining public that he is now out of the business.

With the condescending perspective and attitude displayed in his response, I cannot see him making it in today's competitive restaurant scene. The days of diners accepting sub-par service and accommodating the establishments that depend on them for survival, rather then the other way around, are thankfully retreating. Peer based review services, such as this web site, offer consumers a valuable forum to exchange information and perspectives. I, for one, will not go to a restaurant that does not provide what I consider a modicum of service performance - and that includes full service during the stated hours and access to - within reasonable limits - the payment service I wish to use. It's called catering to your customer, and it is what successful businesses strive to do.

I see that some of the reviews of Red Maple have been positive as to the quality of the food. I wish we had had the opportunity to find out for ourselves.

Perhaps adjusting your closing times to being what they are posted, and offering your customers access to a convenient payment option may be in order.

PS: Enjoy your retirement, Falstaff. And, please, on behalf of the dining public with our reality firmly grounded in the 21st century, stay retired. Hunkered on your overstuffed easy chair, angrily 2-finger tap typing ill-informed,abusive and nonsensical messages while muttering inanities under your breath...that's where you belong. It is not in today's hospitality field.

  • We went there for lunch and was very pleased with the selection and quality of the dishes. Lunch was very reasonably priced and the service was great! I've been to many buffets and I must say this one is at the top of my list. Where can you enjoy a lunch buffet for $8.99 (weekday) with shrimps and fish as all u can eat entrees? Very nice family owned and operated business. Will definitely be returning.

  • My husband and I discovered Red Maple when we first moved to Burlington and love it! I would say that it's definately better than Mandarin. The food is good, service is very good and the atmosphere is very nice.

If you go in expecting a normal chinese food buffet and not something fancy, you'll be well pleased.

  • First time visitors to this buffet restaurant.

The buffet area was tidy and very stylishly decorated. The food wasn't bad. Not terribly tasty, some quite bland, but for a picky eater like my boyfriend the food was just fine! The selection would be comparable to Mandarin, however as I said above the food itself was a little bland.

The dining room where we sat was clean enough until a young couple with very young children arrived.

We didn't have any problems with ordering just water as beverages. Our plates were always cleared right away.

We would probably visit again because the price was very reasonable and on a Friday night there was little to no wait.
