We had a great time when we were there. Service was great and manager was friendly and attentive. It's a great local pub. Food was good too.

Foul SMELL from Kitchen and food was undercooked!
The soft drinks were from 2L bottles as they had no CO2 in the restaurant, so the bottles were sitting on the bar with patrons leaning and speaking over top of the open bottles!
Dusty sitting area, cob webs and dirt on walls!
Manager sits and drinks with patrons, food took forever to come to our table . NEVER AGAIN!

Went in for the first time waited to get served and that took forever, ordered wings and 2 beers by the time we actually got them I could have made them myself, wings were not ok very dry as if they had been reheated again, asked waitress and at a glance she said they look ok and left it at that????. Other people who came in after us were served much quicker than we were, seemed like we were ignored for a bit??? Staff were not that friendly, only with what seemed to be their regular customers.

That weekend went to Mcquires Landing and what a difference, atmosphere was amazing, staff friendly and food over the top, do yourself a favor and go there, great band as well.

The fish and chips here are surprisingly good. From the outside it looks kind of like a dumpy watering hole, but the food and staff are excellent. I would highly recommend the fish and chips here-possibly the best in Bolton. Nice pub atmosphere. Only cons are that the booth chairs are stained and not very clean looking and all the smokers huddle outside the front door so when you walk out you have to inhale all their disgusting second hand smoke to get to your car, but that is not the fault of the establishment.

well when you first arrive you really dont know what your getting, but dont let this ole pub feel stray you away. The service was great, kinda busy but the staff are very attentive. the place is old a pretty beat up, but very cozy, the food was amazing...great price and huge portions. We will definetly be back, great job to the toby jug staff

Dined here 7 or 8 times in the last year and always the food is hot,tasty,plenty of it and served pretty cheerfully and promptly. Draft beer is always in tip-top condition.
Good value for money-not posh or stuck-up.
You don't have to mind serious drinkers propping the bar up but they are separate from the table service area.

Worst service in Bolton!

If you are not a regular patron of this pub, you will be ignored!

The food is average and the atmosphere is somewhat comfortable. However, unless you are an alcoholic or seriously don't have a life, the possibility of good service is beyond what this establishment can offer.

We recently lost our favorite place to go for Friday night drinks (its gone down hill since the change of management, staff, and chef.) The Toby looks promising. Maybe we'll see those of you who used to go to our old favorite at the Toby on Friday nights! Plus, from what I understand, the chef from the the old place is now there.

Good atmosphere, good friendly service and great food. They have real fries here! It was worth going just for that.
