  • My wife and I have been visiting this reataurant at least once per week since it opened, especially for the "all-you-can eat" options for lunch and dinner. Food has been great and fresh and service is very good especially when the servers get to know you and your favourite items. Try it. You will like it. The dinner "a-y-c-e" offers many more items than are available at lunch, but I find the lunch options are much more than i can sample. Wife likes the bento box options which comes with miso soup, rice and salad as well as the teriyaki optionsbut for me its sushi - sushi- sushi !!! Go for it. :-)

  • Order: sushi, bento box, and teriyaki options.

  • It was great to find out we had another all you can eat sushi restaurant in Barrie. This one however has AMAZING QUICK service and is ALWAYS clean.

The restaurant has a great atmosphere, its cozy, modern, clean and has tasteful japanese decor. The staff are nice and attentive, you don't have to wait or want for anything.
The food is amazing and always fresh. Their deep fried banana is so good but their tempura ice cream is even better!!
Some items are only available on the dinner menu, but there is still plenty to order from the lunch menu.

We have become regulars here now and always have an enjoyable experience.

  • Order: salad, rolls, tempura, deep fried banana, Tempura ice cream

  • I was an Ajisai addict, and even with the terrible service and atmosphere I still went there for the good food and cheap prices. Until Akira opened.

For the same price as Ajisai you get great service and a wonderful atmosphere. The dining room is beautiful and looks out over Mulcaster street and you can even see the lake from the window tables. The dishes and chopsticks are simple and elegant, the interior is warm and inviting with hardwood and great lighting, and the music varies -- the first few times there was soft instrumental music playing, but once there was more pop-oriented music.

The food is the most important part of any restaurant experience and Akira never fails to impress. All of the dishes are fresh, creative, and absolutely delicious! The first time I bit into a piece of spicy salmon roll I was awed by the quality of the salmon and soon learned that all of their seafood is absolutely amazing. My new favourite is the Eel Special roll, available only at dinner, and it is divine! My aim is to try almost everything once and I've found all of the food to be spectacular.

The service here is also great, an amazing difference if you've ever been to Ajisai. When you enter the staff are very polite, courteous and friendly. Complimentary Genmaicha green tea is always available to your table without needing to ask, and the efficient wait staff always revisited the table to ensure our cups were never empty.

Overall the experience was great, the food was absolutely delicious and beautiful (the Golden Dragon Roll is a must!) and the service and atmosphere were top-notch. If you frequent Ajisai then you NEED to come to Akira, and come prepared to have your expectations met and exceeded.

  • Order: Golden Dragon Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, Eel Special Roll, Spider Roll, sashimi, udon, etc
