Kim Shan Chinese Buffet Restaurant

Sorry, but no more buffet from Kim Shan. It had been a back-up sort of place for us when there was no time to cook. However, this last time was our last. Cleanliness was lacking this time and that is a big "no-no" for us. We are not unappreciative of an overworked staff of family who are always on the move there, but cleanliness must come first. The buffet is simple and straightforward with basic items to please a general variety of tastes....and it is true that they do replenish items often. However, they must keep the plates, utensils, tables and food surfaces clean...period. The metal trays on the buffet were not fit tightly into their places, which meant gaps that allowed hot steam to escape, burning hands and wrists (there is no reason for that). These are the basic details that need attending. If we had wanted hundreds of items, we would have driven another 5 km to Chan's Buffet or Mandarin on Upper James, but we had come to be quite satisfied on weeknights with Kim Shan's limited but mainstay items. We can easily accept the tattered decor for being what it is (a dated little plaza restaurant that makes no claims to being otherwise), but it is time to clean up and repair before we set foot in there again.

This has been our favorite Chinese Food place for years. We travel in from Brantford, even for takeout, because it's better at Kim Shan's!
Love their buffet, they have a small assortment compared to the biggies, but what they do have on their buffet is what I'd be looking for anyway. I'm into quality vs quantity.
They keep an eye on the quantities, refreshing the buffet as needed, so it's always fresh. I've found their selection of breaded items is way more palatable than at other places, because there isn't as much 'dough', thankfully.
The service is great, imho. You finish your plate, go up for another, and by the time you get back, your plate has been cleared. In my opinion the servers actually work harder here, than the ones at typical restaurants, where they only need to take your order, serve you, check up once, and then clear. These guys are kept hopping, refilling your beverages, replacing your plates, etc. So don't forget to tip them!

You can't compare those large overpriced buffets to this of Kim Shan. Because Kim Shan's buffet options are smaller, you are guaranteed fresh, hot food. Tell me, how does places such as the Manderin constantly restock with fresh food? I highly doubt a restaruant adversting a buffet menue of over 100 items can all be fresh....no kitchen is that big with that many woks on the go. With Kim Shan you can be pretty sure you're going to get hot fresh food whether it's the buffet or delivery.

We order delivery from here fairly often. The food is generally good. There have been an instance or two where the food wasn't the greatest.

Food was good, hot, and definatly fresh. The waiters were a bit lacking, but come on, I`m not that big of a pessimist. Other than that, its an amazing little place!

Found this place on my GPS late one evening, on my way home from work. I was hesitant since the food in most buffets is cold, hard and dried out by that time of evening.(8:30 pm) It turned out to be the best buffet I've been to in a very long time & very reasonably priced. I'll definitely go back!

The place is ok. It's a little restaurant, and the food is average. I would not really reccommend it. Go somewhere larger and somewhere with more than one waiter, such as THE MANDARIN. Kim Shan cannot compare to most larger establishments. It's a little dirty and kind of grungy and dated looking inside.

GREAT FOOD, PRICE IS GOOD AND FOOD HAS ALWAYS BEEN CONSISTENT IN TASTE, FLAVOUR ETC. CONTAINERS ARE EXCELLENT AS WELL.

Ordered take out, was here in 45 minutes hot and fresh and since I live in their free delivery over $20 area range that was an added bonus.
