  • I took my wife here for our anniversary dinner, and must say that we were both impressed. Service was very quick, food was awesome. In the last few years, I have come to really enjoy Indian cuisine, and this was no let down, quite the opposite actually. It was the best Indian food I have ever had, and considering the price, you can not miss with Mount Everest. Highly recommended.

  • Order: Small chicken tikka along with the appetizers that go with the Meal for Two.

  • Really nice food, healthy, not too greasy, lots of beautiful flavors. I can't comment on the authenticity of Indian cuisine as I am not of Indian descent but in my view it was one of the best Indian meals I've had in a long time in Toronto or Ajax. The serving sizes are massive, we ordered an entree and 2 mains between the 2 of us and had left overs giving us another 3 meals out of it. Service was great too and food came out very promptly.

  • Order: Palak paneer, eggplant dish (?name), tandoori paneer

  • We went a short while ago and really enjoyed ourselves. It's this kinda affair where you go in and then you get what you want, from a series of heater tables. I wanna say buffet, but it's a lot classier than most buffets i've been to. Take my word, you just need to go in for yourself.

Anyhow, we had a great time and the atmosphere was really nice too. The owner came out and even gave us some fresh nan bread too, which was just killer with all of the spicy sauces and curries - this is one place where you won't feel bad filling up on bread!

Of course, old Stewie can't go to a nice place without making a horses' patoot of himself. When I was going for a victory lap with my dessert, I ladled a tangy, vinegary sauce over some of the jamoons (think timbits that are served in a sweet, liquory sauce. delicious!) and then told the waiter that I thought the custard had gone bad. I have no idea how he didn't laugh at me, but he told me that I just put Ranch salad dressing all over my dessert. I felt pretty stupid and my wife laughed and laughed. I gotta admit, it was pretty funny.

But yeah, besides from that one dumb thing that I did we will totally be returning.

  • Order: rice, goat curry, seared vegetables, nan bread, jamoon desserts

  • 1st time ordering take out was 2 months ago.

Food was good and still warm after driving from Ajax to Whitby.

Few friends tried what we ordered and few of them could not handle the spices. So, if you are not into hot spice or spices - ask before ordering.

Either way the food was good and we/I ordered again. It would be nice if they deliver to Whitby. I only drop by now either on the way or a friend is on the way coming over to my place.

  • Order: Butter Chicken, Chicken Balti, Pakora

  • The service may seem slow but they cook everything when you order it, it is not sitting waiting under hot lights in the kitchen. Be patient, it will be worth it!

  • The food here is delicious. It is well cooked and seasoned. However, the service is slow. It took almost an hour to get our mains for my family. As other Indian places open up, Mount Everest needs to get their service up to par. However, you can't fault the food, when it does arrive.

  • This is our new favourite restaurant.
We have been here a few times in the last couple of months. A friend of ours recommended it and we met her there for dinner. We loved it. We have met her a couple of times since and have also taken family members and other friends there.
Everything is fresh, extremely hot and delicious.
The service is very good especially considering it is usually quite busy.
It is a small place but if you make a reservation you are sure to get in and get a great meal.

  • Order: Butter Chicken, Curry Chicken, naan with cheese and raisins, saffron rice and a curried chick pea dish that was amazing!

  • Like an earlier reviewer I was not impressed. Like another earlier reviewer I am also British. "Authentic" Indian cuisine it is not.

The food is great if you like Campbell’s tomato soup with some curry powder in it. The Naan bread - I don't know what it is...but it isn't naan as I know it.

I gave this place THREE tries... that's enough! The only experience I have ever had that was worse was some place in Oshawa that put trail mix in the rice!

If you have never eaten Indian food before - please don't go here for your first experience!

Sorry Everest... I really wanted you to be great... I am so disappointed!

  • Order: a mushy thing that tasted like tomato soup...some rice that was soggy and some odd flatbreads (apparently these are naan)

I am not going to comment on your wife's taste... I only referred to my origins in response to an earlier reviewer who seemed to find it relevant. I suppose because the UK is riddled with mainly Bangladeshi and North Indian eateries.

All I can say...

  • This fine establishment has no peers at all in the Durham Region. It's simple if you like Indian food perfectly cooked and presented then this is for you. I am certainly not Mr Singh's daughter or any other relative. Although once you enter the Mount Everest and try the food you feel you would like to have perhaps an Uncle or friend like Mr Singh who is the epitome of politeness and like all skilled chefs relishes (pun intended) the comments he receives about his culinary skills. I have been many times to Mr Singh's restaurant, and like that mountain he is at the top - certainly in this area - has anyone noted how long any of his competitors stick around ?

Back 'ome in London we always ate at the restaurants that were firmly established - as long as Mr Singh is the spicemaster of Ajax we will keep on coming again and again.

  • Order: Great Seekh Kebabs, Onion Bhajees etc etc its all terrific

  • I can only assume some of the poor ratings are written by competitors to Mount Everest. We have lived in the UK for many years which has some of the best Indian food anywhere. Mount Everest stands equal to any of these...the chicken balti is to die for, for instance. This restaurant is one of the hidden gems of the GTO. You don't go for the service (average) or decor (not great) but the food (eat in or take out) is fantastic. We are SO glad to have discovered this place four years ago and we go back regularly. If you haven't been, GO! You won't be sorry.

  • Order: Chicken Balti, various other dishes, naan
