  • Excellent food and service every time I go -- which is fairly often.

  • Order: I've had cevapi (excellent) and paprikash (also excellent). Great salad. Strudel is wonderful, too.

  • The stuffed pepper was delicious. It tasted like the kind my mother used to make. My husband thought that the paprikash was the closest to his Hungarian mother's recipe. The apple strudel was wonderful.

  • Order: One of the daily specials, stuffed peppers & chicken paprikash with strudel for dessert.

  • The many times that I had passed this restaurant and never stopped, I always said to myself "Gee, I should go in there and try it out." The old building was a tiny brick box that had a sign that read: New Era Cafe - Fine food - Paprikash. Several people had told me that the food was very good. My husband and I went in one afternoon to give it a try...We should have kept going. when we went in the door it seemed like we were interrupting some sort of secret meeting. The men at the bar turned around and just looked at us. The waitress also seemed to be put out that she had to get up and get us menus. The Iced tea was terrible, we asked for lemons and the waitress returned with two slices of slimy, warmm, half-rotten lemons. We chose not to use them, seeing the state they were in. When our entree arrived, I thought that we might be in for a unique dining experience. I sure saw right about that! I don't know if it is a unique eastern european custom to have to pick tiny pieces of chicken bone out of your meal before swallowing it, but I am not used to it and found it to be a thoroughly unpleasant experience. It seemed like whoever made this chicken stew just decided to take the whole chicken - bones and all - and chop it up and put it in a pot! Overall, My husband and I were dumbfounded when we left...How could this kind of service and food have lasted for this long??

  • Order: Chicken Paprikash, Iced Tea.
