Our friend said we absolutely HAD to eat at the Carnegie Deli because it's the best food in NY, and she was right! The portions are HUGE, like I'm talking 8-10" tall sandwiches and giant salads. We ordered the turkey BLT, a Zorba the Greek salad, and the matzo ball soup and just shared it between the 3 of us. I would recommend sharing plates because the portions are so big, but be warned that you will pay an extra $3 if you don't each order an entree (it's worth it though!). We still couldn't finish it all, and we didn't leave room for cheesecake either! I am definitely going back there again before I leave the city because I need to have some cheesecake.
The waitstaff seems like they can be short but they really aren't, they're just busy busy busy. Know what you want before you wave them over, and don't waste their time. Treat them nicely and they will do the same.
Everything is very close and cramped in the restaurant but it's part of the experience! Chat with your neighbours sitting at your table, and take the opportunity to look around at all the photos that cover the walls.
Also, there is a line-up down the street at lunch and dinner hours so make sure you get there early if you want to go during those times. It's open from 6:30am-4am daily.

We had the woody, rueben, chicken soup (with matzo balls) and the potato salad. EVERYTHING was great--The waiters can be a little short with you, but if you are nice to them, they will start smiling and joking with you, like you were long lost friends, but if you give them a hard time, then you will get the same back. Be prepared to sit at a long table with people you have never met before. Make sure you have some of the deli mustard and try as many different pickles as you can. The portions are SUPER HUGE, so it may be difficult to leave room for desert, but the cheesecake is the best in town, possibly the entire US

We love their Pastrami Sandwich. But These sandwiches are NON-KOSHER. Although, they do have some Kosher food. What ever you order, their DELI MUSTARD is a must with their sandwiches. It is amazing!!

We went to Carnegie Hall Deli the first night we were in New York. The food was great. You don't get anything with the sandwiches but they come with enough meat to make a neighborhood lunches for a week. However the service is very poor and they don't know how to wait on people. You must ask for refills. Plus the tables were sticky and did not look very clean, the chair next to me even had some mysterious gunk on it. All in all, the food is great but it has a rushed, "I'm too good to help you right now" kind of new york attitude.

We were headed to Carnegie Hall so we naturely stop at this deli for dinner and have usually been satisfied in the past so expected the same this time around.
The sandwiches do appear to be smaller now than in past but the flavor and texture of the corned beef and pastrami are still quite good. Service as always is brisk and at times inattentive but its the Carnegie so you expect this to be the case.
All told the food is decent and for a quick bite before the show at the hall this place cant be beat - Order: We both ordered sandwiches one corned beef and one pastrami
