  • Enterprise, Mississippi is off the beaten path, and Long's Fish Camp (founded in 1968) is off the beaten path, even for Enterprise; it's on the old River Road, maybe a tick closer to Stonewall than Enterprise, and within a stone's throw of the Chickasawhay River.
That said, it may be the most popular eatery in the county.
The parking lot and the dining rooms are packed during business hours (lunch and dinner, Wednesday through Sunday, closed M-T-F) with cars from all over the region.
As the name states, the specialty is fish: farm-raised catfish (no tilapia here), whole or fillets, seasoned and rolled in corn meal, fried to a perfect light brown and just the right crisp texture. The hush puppies are as meticulously prepared as the fish, and the cole slaw is the best to be found in this galaxy. Chicken fingers, steaks, and other seafood also appear on the menu.
The decor is plain to the point of severity, with bare concrete floors, picnic tables with hunter-green vinyl tablecloths and backless benches, and mounted deer heads around the painted cinder-block walls, wjth a couple of mounted fish trophies, a bobcat, and a mounted raccoon over the cashier's station, wearing sunglasses! I have always found it to be meticulously clean.
It's noisy and a little tacky, but that's the charm.

Mrs. Long retired some years ago, but unlike so many "local institution" restaurants, the new management has made very few changes; they know what keeps the place popular.

A party of two eating the signature all-you-can eat catfish with soft drinks came out at $30, including tip.

If you are traveling through the Meridian, Mississippi area, especially if you're continuing toward Laurel or New Orleans, the side trip to Long's Fish Camp is well worth the effort!
