I have eaten here several times over the years, and the big plus for this restaurant is their location on the Cheboygan River. The restaurant is a large, open space for the most part, with a small number of tables on an upper level, and it is indeed a converted boathouse. The theme is understandable nautical, and there is outdoor seating in the summer months. The bar lounge is somewhat small and L-shaped, and is tucked away from the open area of the main dining area.
The food here has been hit and miss through the years. I have come away from a whitefish dinner thinking that I wished I had cooked just something myself at home, and I have had an ahi tuna dish (unavailable now) that was to die for.
Safe bets are their various dinner salads such as the cajun chicken salad. The Mile High Meatloaf is quite good, and comes topped with onion rings. Their gumbo is thick and tasty, and not too spicy.
One big change I noticed the last time I ate here was that dinners do not come with soup or salad any more, but have to be ordered separately. The prices have taken a good jump, too.
