  • Best Malay, Indonesian, Thai Restaurant in Town!
  • Review By Livetoeat for Restauran Malay in Richmond Hill on 7/10/2008
  • 2 diners, $11-$25 per person on Jul 10 2008
  • OrderGreen Curry, Red Curry, Beef Murtabak, Gado Gado, Cury Pratta
  • ReviewI have been frequenting this place for years now. They recently renovated their restaurant and it now looks more upscale.

That scared me at first as this usually means more cost and less taste. Not so - well, the prices went up a bit, but it's still worth every penny.

This place is as authentic as it gets. The food here is to die for. The only problem I encountered was about a red curry that just did not have the usuall Restauran quality - something wasn't right. I asked the waitress if she could try and she said that she was a vegetarian.

This kind of peed me off abit - no let me take it back to the chef, let me get you someone that is not a vegetarian... So I grabbed one of the waiters and asked him to try. He agreed that it was different and offered to exchange it for me. I should have pressed to see a manager at this point, but I didn't seeing as this is the only time that I was dissapointed.

Next time I go, it had better be back to the Restauran I know and love, at which point I will bring the service back up to 9 and the food to 10.

  • One of the Best Pho Places in Markham
  • Review By Livetoeat for VIP Vietnamese Restaurant in Markham on 7/9/2008
  • 1 diners, $0-$10 per person on Jul 9 2008
  • OrderPho
  • ReviewI love soups and Pho is one of my favourites.

The pho here is fantastic, great broth, and plenty of meat. I don't like the noodles too much, but that's just personal preference.

The ambiance is nice and clean, which usualy would be my cue that the food is so so, but in this case it's not.

I come here about twice a month for my Pho fix.

  • Fair Price for All-You-Can-Eat
  • Review By Livetoeat for Syogun Japanese Cuisine in Markham on 7/9/2008
  • 2 diners, $11-$25 per person on Jul 9 2008
  • OrderAll You Can Eat
  • ReviewThis place is pretty good for an all you can eat Japanese. Of course, no self respecting Japanese would eat at sucha a place, but for what it is, it's not bad.

The food for the most part is good, just not fantastic.

I come out feeling full and satisfied.

    Good luch place.

  • The Best Chinese Restaurant in Newmarket
  • Review By Livetoeat for Cynthia's Chinese Restaurant in Newmarket on 7/9/2008
  • 5 diners, $11-$25 per person on Jul 9 2008
  • OrderA lot
  • ReviewWhat can I say about this place other than it's the best place for Chinese food in Newmarket. I have never been dissapointed with any of their dishes.

It's more expensive than most Chinese restaurants, but well worth the price.

I have not given out any 10s, but this place comes the closest to that for me.

  • So So Indian
  • Review By Livetoeat for India Time in Newmarket on 7/9/2008
  • 2 diners, $11-$25 per person on Jul 9 2008
  • OrderButtered Chicken, Aloo Mattar, Saag Paneer...
  • ReviewI went there once with my wife and we have not been back since. Not that we had a horrible experience like some of the others have had, but it just didn't grab our attention.

The Buttered Chicken tasted like somethin Chef Boyardee would make. Te supposed ethnic restaurants in this area are more than often just mediocre at best.

Sorry to say that my wife and I will not be going there again. We'd rather drive to Richmond Hill to Bobay Bhel - strange that a large chain actually gets the taste while a small mom and pop doeasn't. It goes against everything I believe in.

  • The Best Thai in Town
  • Review By Livetoeat for Tuptim Thai Restaurant in Newmarket on 7/9/2008
  • 3 diners, $11-$25 per person on Jul 9 2008
  • OrderGreen Curry, Red Curry. Spicy Beef, Spring Rolls, Pad Thai, Tom-Yum Gung...
  • ReviewI live in Newmarket and one thing I find is that there are very few authentic food places here.

I don't like Kelsey type restaurants so this hurts. Fortunately, this place rocks! I have been to Thailand and the food here is very authentic.

The Pad Thai, though not one of my favourite Thai foods, is fantastic. The Red and Green Curries are to die for and the spicy beef... well I can honestly say I'm hooked on those.

I've tried other Thai places in Newmarket, but they all seem to cater to the Kelsey crowd.

If you want authentic Thai, then you have to go here.

  • Great Japanese Restaurant
  • Review By Livetoeat for Solo Sushi-Ya in Newmarket on 7/9/2008
  • 3 diners, $26-$60 per person on Jul 9 2008
  • OrderOmekase
  • ReviewSolo Sushi-Ya sounds like just another Chinese/Korean owned Japanese Restaurant. But don't let the name fool you, this is a great Japanese Restaurant.

My wife and I go there on special occasions and we are always very pleased. The Chef is passionate about what he does and it shows; in presentation and taste.

I love ordering Omekase as you never know what you are going to get and I like that. I have complete faith in the Chef and he has never dissapointed.

The place is a little expensive, but worth it.

  • Good Indian Place for Buffet Style Lunch
  • Review By Livetoeat for Moti Mahal Restaurant in Markham on 7/9/2008
  • 1 diners, $11-$25 per person on Jul 9 2008
  • OrderBuffet
  • ReviewWhile I agree that Moti is one of the better Indian Restaurants in Markham, I will have to say that it is not the best.

The buttered chicken is one of the better ones that i have tasted in Markham, but it is not consistent. Some days it's fantastic and other days meh.

The rest of the food is fairly fresh and delicious, but nothing to call amazing. The staff is friendly and curteous and the ambiance is OK.

The one little caveat is that the washrooms are outside of the restaurant in the office part of the building.

I go there about once a week for lunch and I like it, but I would not go as far as to say it the best.

  • One of the Better Greek Places in Markham
  • Review By Livetoeat for Kostas Eatery in Markham on 7/9/2008
  • 2 diners, $11-$25 per person on Jul 9 2008
  • OrderCalamari, Gyros in a Pita, Village Salad, Saganaki...
  • ReviewI've been to Kostas a few times and I have not been dissapointed. It is way better than those cookie cutter Mr. Greek Restaurants that you find everywhere.

Kostas is a friendly guy and will accomodate whatever you wish.

Friendly note to those who have never been to Greece, that Greek Salad you usually order isn't greek at all except for maybe the Feta on top. Next time you go to a Greek Restaurant like Costas ask for the Village Salad instead, it is much more authentic.

I highly reccoment this place if you like Greek food and are in Markham. If you're downtown, then stay there as there are way better places there.

  • Not Bad Place, Just not my Style.
  • Review By Livetoeat for Great Khan Mongolian Grill in Markham on 7/9/2008
  • 4 diners, $0-$10 per person on Jul 9 2008
  • OrderSome mixed up stir fry?
  • ReviewThis place serves decent fresh food, but the only thing Mongolian about it is the round flat frying serface that the cooks use to fry up your concoction.

I like to try different things all the time and this place was a let down. It was no different than say something like Fire and Ice. There's nothing authentic Mongolian about this place.

I will not go there on my own volition, but if some people at work want to go, it's not like I'd kick up a fuss.

The place is clean and the atmosphere is fun. The staff is ok, but it's more or less serve yourself anyways.

If you aren't adventurous and like to feel like you're eating something different, go ahead and eat here.

  • Great Lunch Place
  • Review By Livetoeat for George's Tastee Bakery & Deli in Markham on 7/9/2008
  • 1 diners, $0-$10 per person on Jul 9 2008
  • OrderGoat Curry, Jerk Pork, Jerk Chicken...
  • ReviewI go to George's at least once a week for lunch and I have never ever been dissapointed.

They have West Indian and "Canadian Food" there, but I always get one of the Jerks or Curries. The portions are out of this world and the taste is up there too.

The staff is very friendly and I still get a chuckle when I hear them talk as they are West Indian Chinese. I am not used to seeing someone that looks asian speak with a West Indian accent.

The amenities have a little bit to be desired, but those who have read some of my other reviews will know that this is the last thing I consider when I chose where to eat.

Try the Jerk Pork on rice with gravy; it's absolutely out of this world.

I absolutely reccomend this place for anyone looking to get some delicious, plentifull, and fast food.

  • Fantastic Dim Sum
  • Review By Livetoeat for Ding Tai Fung Shanghai Dim Sum in Markham on 7/9/2008
  • 4 diners, $11-$25 per person on Jul 9 2008
  • OrderDumplings, Green onion pancakes, rice noodle in beef broth...
  • ReviewThis place is fantastic!

The food is fresh and extremely flavourfull. There are these little pork dumplings that I always get when I go that are to die for. They each have pork and seasonings and a little juice inside that squirts into your mouth as you chew.

The onion pancakes are very good as is all of the food that I have ever had there.

The service is curteous and fast. The decor simple and tastefull. The place is earily clean for a Chinese restaurant which normally alerts me that this may be a Westrernised version of Chines - but it's not.

I reccomend anyone who likes Dim Sum to give Shanhai Style Dim Sum a try. You may never go back to the more popular Hong Kong style.

The only problem I have with this place is that it is more expensive than traditional Dim Sum, so I can't go all the time. But it's worth every penny.

  • Average Indian
  • Review By Livetoeat for Chauhan's Catering in Markham on 7/9/2008
  • 2 diners, $11-$25 per person on Jul 8 2008
  • OrderWent for the Lunch Buffet
  • ReviewI've been to a lot of Indian Buffets, some bad, some good. This one was just plain average. The food was OK... but just OK.

I can't comment on the service as I had the buffet. I'll go if someone wants to go there on purpose, otherwise there are many better choices in Markham.

  • Excellent Place for Good Cheap Sit Down Lunch
  • Review By Livetoeat for Congee Wong in Markham on 7/8/2008
  • 1 diners, $11-$25 per person on Jul 8 2008
  • OrderFukien Rice, Crab Claw, Shrimp Dumplings, 1000 Year Old Egg and Pork Congee, Singapore Fried Noodle, Chinese Brocoli, Fried Turnips, Chu Chiow Fried Rice, Cold Duck...
  • ReviewDefinitely one of my favourite lunch places in Markham. Sure the wait staff is not the friendliest bunch, but I'm not there to strike up a conversation with any of them.

The food is what makes me come back again and again. It is tasty and plentifull and not too white breadified. I can't stand Mandarin style Chinese.

If you are a foodie like me and can overlook things like curt service and dirty washrooms, this is the place for you.

There are other good Chinese eateries, but this is definitely one of my favourites.
