  • I was hoping to have some delicious authentic ramen, but I did not find it at Ajisen Ramen.

It was very busy inside, and quite dirty. The service was prompt and polite, but that didn't make up for the rest of the poor dining experience.

We ordered the fried chicken ramen. The chicken had an ok flavour, but was all dark meat, full of cartilage. Not a pleasant texture at all.

The soup was even worse. It had a strange pink milky cloudiness to it that I was hoping was miso, but it wasn't the same. It was very bland and the noodles itself were the worst! They were nothing more than dried spaghetti noodles that you find in and every day grocery store. They weren't cooked very well either, under done and very starchy.

I obviously had skewed expectations for this place as I expected so much more. This is more like a really less than mediocre fast food place rather than a nice authentic ramen restaurant.

If you want bland, poorly cooked spaghetti in cloudy flavourless water, then give Ajisen a try, but if not, just save yourself the money and buy the 39cent stuff in the package at your local grocery store.

  • My only small complaints are how small and boxed in I felt in this brickwalled eatery. My bread plate was dirty-- it looked like cigarette ashes were on it or something. I went to switch it with the table behind me, but that one had dirt on it too! Other than that it was a great meal with prompt service.

The portions of food were fantastic and you will not leave this place hungry. breaded mushroom app was hot and fresh, lentil soup was homemade and delicious. I ordered the Hunter's schnitzel and it was very good and filling! I really loved the Spätzle that came with it. Very rich and you know it's probably not so healthy, but soo very delicious.

My boyfriend ordered the rindsrouladen and I tried a bit of that aswell which was also very good.

I think I will come back sometime and try something else on menu. I wasn't very familiar with Austrian food prior to last night, so I'd definitely love to try more.

Highly recomended but make sure to make a reservation.

  • I had tried ordering take out from this place a couple of months ago. A young woman answered and put me on hold. Then an older gentleman answered and told me to wait a moment. He set the phone down and I could hear what sounded like hundreds of people in the background along with yelling, etc. I waited for at least 15 minutes when I finally decided they were obviously too busy to take my order, so I hung up.

The other day I decided to try it out in person and my experience was fairly mediocre. As far as atmosphere goes the set up wasn't too great. I don't like how the buffet room is somewhat separated. Open concept might have been a nicer look. There seemed to be quiet a few kids running around and screaming babies which was annoying but not the restaurants fault. One woman in the buffet line was actually carrying her kid at her hip and trying to serve herself with one hand but only managed to dump a load of onion rings into the sweet and sour sauce. Again, this isn't the restaurants fault, but just to give you a better idea of the over all atmosphere-- loud and messy.

The food was ok at most. I've had better at other local chinese buffets. The black bean chicken was probably my favourite while the other dishes were just meh. Everything kind of all tastes the same. More variety would be nice. (weird to say about a buffet, I know)

When it came to dessert I got a slice of cappuccino cake and a wonton honey cookie. The cream in the cake tasted more like crisco than cream, and the wonton cookie had a gross fishy taste-- clearly the oil needed to be changed in the fyer or maybe the desserts should be done in a separate one.

To sum things up, it wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either. I've had better for the same price.

  • My boyfriend and I had wanted to try Korean BBQ for a long time. When we walked into the restaurant the decor was almost a shock. It was something I would expect an Italian restaurant to look like rather than a Korean one and it made me feel a little confused.

We ordered the all you can eat BBQ and the menu had said it would come with side dishes, soup and rice but didn't really specify what kind. The service was very prompt but a bit rude and even abrupt. It almost felt like I was having my food thrown at me as the server slammed all the dishes down in front of us and then ran off to the back without saying anything. Most of the dishes were different and unidentifiable to me which made me feel uneasy. I recognized a few like the pickles, kimchi, sprouts and cold potatoes, but there were a couple of other dishes that I had no idea. They all tasted very good though, I specially enjoyed the pickles and kimchi cabbage.

We were also served tea, plain rice and soup. I couldn't recognize the tea by smelling it. It smelled almost like wet tobacco and we were afraid to try it. The soup smelled like corn nuts and my boyfriend confirmed that it tasted like corn nuts as well. Too weird for me so I didn't try it. We had no idea what kind of soup it was.

All of the meat was delicious and tender. Thin slices of marinated beef, pork and chicken along with squid and prawns. The whole charcoal grill at the table experience was neat but awkward. I was being extra careful not to cross-contaminate the utensils with the raw meat and after a while the whole restaurant gets a little too smoky.

Clearly there was both good and bad things about this place and over-all I wouldn't mind trying it again. It would have been nice if the servers were more helpful in explaining what was being served to us rather than being so short.

The new experience and good food was worth it.

  • My mom ordered a couple large pizzas for dinner and it was the worst pizza I've had. The crust was dried out like cardboard and hurt my jaw to chew through, the mushrooms were CANNED... horrible... and I personally didn't like the taste of the pepperoni they used either.

I was very disappointed since my mom and Nonna actually went out of their way to find really good pizza if not the best in Hamilton, so they came to this site and because of Mittina's reviews decided to give them a try. Definitely did not live up to the hype on here!!

    Very disappointed.

  • Best sushi and Japanese food in Hamilton. Very cute and clean restaurant with super friendly service. Always greeted politely upon entry and many thanks received when leaving. Service is always prompt. The food is amazing. Always fresh, always great portions of good quality. I've visited many times and not been let down yet. The last time we visited we had our meal for take out and even the way things were packaged, everything was kept very hot and fresh by the time we got home. The avocado rolls are simple and refreshing and by far the best I've ever had of all the maki I have tried elsewhere. If happy had a flavour, it would be the food of Kampai, because I always leave that restaurant feeling great. Thank you Kampai!

  • The service was just right. We were checked on often but not annoyingly often. The decor was nice and the place has an overall warmth to it. Hummos tasted great and I liked how they plated it and put olives in the middle. The salad had a nice fresh taste to it (possibly mint?) I especially liked the dressing. The mixed grill was awesome. All the meat was flavourful and cooked to perfection. I could have lived without the rice though, it was a little weak, but everything else was great! My boyfriend mentioned the washroom was super clean too, which is always a good sign when going somewhere to eat because chances are they keep the kitchen clean as well. I've had good experience at the other Hamilton locations too. Definitely recommended.

  • Curious to see if this place would be any better than others we know (which is wasn't), my family wanted to try Sunday Brunch here. The price for brunch is a whopping $19 per person. For the service, selection and quality of food, they should really consider lowering the prices to about $8 per person, if even. The orange juice was WARM and had ice in it. It was horribly acidic and tasted like it was fermenting. I always thought OJ was supposed to be refrigerated to prevent dangerous growth of bacteria and fermentation. Plates were filthy. Food was of poor quality and seemed like it was old and sitting in the serving trays for too long. Selection was poor as well. There were very few lunch items (aside from a mushy salad and mystery suchi rolls) when my mother phoned in the day before she was told there would be a roast and pasta being served, but there was mostly only sausage, bacon and eggs. When my boyfriend asked the buffet attendant what was in the sushi rolls, she shrugged and said "I dunno." Not very professional and pretty scary. The dessert table was weak too, I didn't even bother trying any of that because I could get something much nicer from a place around the corner. Service was poor in general. It was uncomfortable trying to serve yourself at the buffet because the lids were all on the trays and there was nowhere to sit them. Shouldn't the servers take care of that kind of thing? I think so. The overall layout of the restaurant was just an awkward set up too. Everything was so off-putting that we decided to cut brunch short and complain to the manager. That was the one good thing about this place. The manager seemed to listen and gave us our meal for free, as it should be. That I can appreciate. Otherwise this was the worst brunch I have ever gone to. If you want a good buffet for $20 a person, there are others where the food quality and selection is MUCH better. Vicar's Vice needs to make a whole lot of improvements if they expect to keep business going. I have to wonder if the first few '10' reviews on here were written by the owner because I can't see how anyone could rate this place any higher than a 5 at most.

  • I really like the atmosphere of this restaurant. It is clean and decorated nicely and gives you a feeling that the people working there really take care in what they do.

Unfortunately my meal made me change my mind. The soup was ok and I was happy it didn't look like something that came out of a can, though it was a little bland. The spaghetti and meatballs were pretty bad though. I'm part Italian and know good spaghetti and meatballs when I have them and this was not it.

The sauce was thin and oily and quite flavourless. If anything all I could taste was cheap olive oil. I was hoping to have fresh pasta, but this was just the store-bought dried kind you get in a bag. The meatballs were the absolute worst though. Gross even. I had to wonder how old they were. They were cold in the middle and the texture was plain bad. They seemed to be mostly mushy bread crumb filler but then had small chunks of tough grizzly meat scattered inside. They didn't taste right and the colour in the middle (black almost!) was very off-putting.

Because my meal was so dissatisfying I ordered dessert hoping it would make up for the nasty meatball experience. It did but I doubt they make the cheesecake at the restaurant. The Chocolate cheese cake was very good and they did plate it nicely.

The next morning I had quite bad cramps and was sick to my stomach. All I could taste was those horrid meatballs and I'm pretty sure that's what the cause of my pain was from.

So overall the ONLY reason I would go back is for dessert and a coffee or something. Never again for a meal.

STAY AWAY FROM THE MEATBALLS, they are BAD NEWS.
