Fast, cheap, innovative and delicious. A great stop when you're in a hurry, broke or just interested in a great Chinese (Thai) meal. There are more than half-a-dozen Magic Wok Restaurants around the Toledo area so, no matter where you are, there's one close by.
Order your food at the counter and, usually, your order is up in minutes. It should be called fast Chinese food, but the excellence of their dishes is way better than fast food and most other Chinese food. Nothing fancy here..
My favorite meal is the Pad Thai, which is about 5 bucks and quickly wokked with delicious veggies, shrimp or chicken, noodles and an incredible proprietary sauce. It's fresher and tastes better than any Pad Thai I've ever had . . . even those costing $14 to $25 in fancier venues. There is a lot of other meals to choose from. I've never eaten one that wasn't just great.
The exterior design is an excellent harbinger of the freshness that awaits inside. I'd call it "Contemporary Asian."
Interiors are purely functional and carry through the Asian motif. Cleanliness is top shelf.
The Magic Wok also offers an huge assortment of freshly churned smoothies and such. I'm not a smoothie fan, so you'll have to let me know how they taste.
In a hurry or not, you won't be disappointed at any Magic Wok. If it isn't to your taste, they'll prep it how you want it.
- Order: Pad Thai and Hot Tea - my standby order.

This is my go-to, in-a-hurry favorite for Chinese fast food. The menu is broad with something for everyone. The hot tea has improved to very good over the years.
Egg rolls are always fresh and hot. Your food is wokked before your eyes in about 4 minutes from very fresh ingredients. My favorite is the Shrimp Pad Thai, whose flavor and prep rivals that of any I've had elsewhere in the world. And . . . at $5 it's the best deal in town. There are 6 or more locations around town. The stores feature excellent contemporary asian graphics both inside and out. Service is typically good by their entry-level young staff.
Food quality is surprisingly consistent from location to location. It gets my vote for very fast and quite delicious when I don't have the time to dine . . . (or if I'm pinched for cash)
- Order: Egg roll, Shrimp Pad Thai - extra spicy, hot tea

It truly is the best kept food secret in Toledo Located on the bend heading south on Summit St. from downtown, its location if non-too-obvious.
The food is all freshly prepared by the props - Jackie and Sarki David. They're the friendliest people in the food business and it's a business they do well.
They serve the most delicious homemade soups in town and the subs are second to none. You're liable to be treated to an art exposition on the brick interior walls - whose art? It changes all the time.
Their sub selection is enormous and every one tastes better than the one you had last time. Must be magic! Great food, great coffees, great desserts, just great! You can special-order subs any way you like them. Their 4-footer is great for casual entertaining.

Carmel's used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant in nw Ohio - one of 4 similar, same-family places.
It slipped into mediocrity several years ago when they replaced many of their homemade food items with institutional goods - tortillas, chips, salsa and more. The food changed drastically for the worse.
I've been back several times since the change and the food still isn't near the flavors of the old Carmel's.
The only time I go back is to fulfill my hope that the tastes of before will return.

One of the few 24-hour, 365 day eateries in the area, The Waffle House is a complete franchise, serviced by a corporate commissary, but you can still get it your way. Just ask the friendly staff.
The food is very consistent, cooked to your specification and served by terrific waitresses. waiters are now extinct at most WHs.
Design is Early Atlanta Diner with counters and tables. . . very bright. The waitstaff calls the orders to the cooks using a special language reminiscent of the early diners in the U.S. It's quite entertaining and rarely is an order messed up.
Fresh and friendly are the watchwords at the WH. I eat here a lot.

Buried in the corner of a strip center, you're startled upon entering to find an huge bar in the center. Around it are tables and booths that'll seat an army.
The food is outstanding and very wonderfully creative. Even the burgers are quite special and delicious. The menu is extensive and item names and descriptions are enjoyably written.
The waitstaff is extraordinary and seemed incredibly attentive. Don't miss this place. You can't go wrong.

This a restaurant I always recommend, because it's been fabulous since it first opened. The ambiance is wonderful. The tasteful decor and layout add to an always-great dining experience. My fav is the Star Special Breakfast. Big, delicious bacon. Big, delicious toast. Big, delicious homefries. # delicious, perfectly cooked eggs. Tiny little price. Too low to mention here.
The service is the best! I've never seen a server walk past an order that was up. Whether it was her table or not, it was delivered immediately. It's a great buddy system that helps handle their very large patronage.
I think it's just a great experience!
