I love this place for just nice, authentic chinese food. I believe it's family run.
This is a good place to just go if you're hungry, and want some decent food. Definitely not a fine-dining kind of place, almost like fast food.
I usually order the seafood garlic fried rice, the chicken corn soup, gai lan, eggplant (really good, but really greasy), and an assortment of meat dishes.
I find somedays it's hit or miss, like it'll be too salty, and you'll taste msg in your mouth, but generally speaking, i always feel pretty satisfied with their food :)
highly recommend for a quick decent meal

HUGE PORTIONS
This is my first time going to a german restaurant, so I didn't really know what to expect.
The first thing I noticed was that EVERYBODY was middle aged and white. I stuck out like a sore thumb.
Our server was nice enough, little bit strange, but food came out fast.
I went such a long time ago, so I can't really recall everything, but I remember the food being a great bang for the buck (especially the platters which are meant for 2 people, but could easily feed 4). It was a bit heavy, but I suppose it was to be expected from eating 4 different kinds of sausages, ham, eggs, sauerkraut, fried potatoes, etc. etc.
Overall, pretty delicious homey meal, would go again, and share a platter with a bunch of friends.

for those who enjoy korean food in Toronto or even Korea, you can't really compare, of course they're going to be better, c'mon it's hamilton
but hands down THE BEST korean restaurant in Hamilton.
it's a family owned and run business, the husband is usually out serving, and the wife is in the back cooking up all of the food. Lovely people.
Service is a bit slow, but understandable since there's usually only one waitstaff. Pretty quiet place, beautiful atmosphere (the owner is also an avid painter, and he decorated the place himself), and fresh, clean tasting food!
I recommend this place to everybody, great dining experience :)

My bf and I decided to come here for our anniversary, since we had been wanting to go for a long time. We were anticipating a great meal, great atmosphere, and great services, based on the "awards" that the restaurant had plastered on their front door.
Granted those awards were given almost four years ago, this restaurant is totally not deserving of them now!
The food was so overpriced, misrepresented and inedible. We ordered one of the specialty seafood platters for $40, since I am a GIANT seafood fan. I'm not the most picky eater, but I honestly couldn't eat half of garbage that was on my plate.
The calamari was totally burnt, the pieces of fish were overly fried and dry (I couldn't eat bite into it), the "crab" was imitation crab meat, and so on...
The mussels tasted alright, they were swathed in some kind of spicy tomato based sauce, but that was the only thing that I found half enjoyable. This might have been forgiven, if the service was good. We had divided up the food between ourselves, before chowing down, and the waitress came up and just said, "i can tell you like the food!" and didn't wait for us to comment, before she rushed away.
We sat there for another 20 minutes, food virtually untouched, before the waitress came back (she was nowhere in sight before), and we tried to voice our dissatisfaction (which we both HATE doing, makes us feel incredibly guilty).
however, she went on to make all of these excuses, trying to justify the crappy food, saying that we should have told her we didn't like it when she came bythe first time (we hadn't even tried it then!), and generally lecturing us. I felt like she was kind of taking advantage of the fact that we were younger, and that somehow we would put up with that.
The only saving grace was that we didn't have to pay for any of it in the end.
Overall, I had really high expectations for this place; it ended up being the most disappointing experience.
the reviews here seem pretty varied, so it could have been a one time thing, but I know that I will not be going again, mainly because of the service.
I would recommend the portuguese restaurant across the street "Acclamation" instead of "Ventura's". Cleaner, friendlier staff, nice atmosphere, live music on somedays, and complimentary dishes sometimes!
- Order: some sausage soup with greens, and seafood platter
