  • The Barking Crab is the perfect place for a low key seafood lunch. No pressure, you just show up and you may or may not get seated at a table with others. There is a nice breeze and it overlooks that water which is fun!

  • Order: lobster roll, fried clams, druken shrimp, clam chowder, sangria

  • It did not start well: we had a reservation for 4 people, but when we got to the Barking Crab we were put in the outside dining hall, with wooden benches (yes, benches) that sit 8 people per table, so we had to share our dinner table with four perfect strangers. Nice as they were, it is not quite the same experience. The service, as you can imagine, matched the place: our waiter got the order wrong in the first place (forgot one menu item) and then she was nowhere to be seen for most of the evening.
But the worst was still to come. The fried oysters were OK, the fisherman plate was acceptable (though fish to fries ratio was on the lower end of tolerability), but the "signature dish", the MIxed Crab Bowl was a nightmare. Badly overcooked and dry, it was like chewing through cotton wool. It is difficult to imagine how they managed to get it so wrong. To add injury to insult, we got nailed 79 dollars (plus tax) just for enjoying this memorable crab.
Fortunately, the house Chardonnay was cold and pleasant (and affordable), and we downed two bottles in a vain attempt to forget the dinner.
The total meal tab was 169 dollars, plus gratuities. Never again.

  • Order: Fried oysters, fisherman platter, large crab bowl, Chardonnay

  • The appetizers are really good as well as the pitchers of beer. just don't get the satay chicken on skewers. they are overpriced. I think it's fun you can go to a restaurant and use the rock on the table to open your crab legs. lol.

The best thing about this place is the summer atmosphere. Not cheap but good for a group if you get there early.

  • Have been a fan for the 15 years I have lived in Boston and always have a good time. The atmosphere is fun yet low-key and laid-back Seafood Shack, the food is consistently good, the service is friendly...it's a hit with visiting parents, friends' birthdays, and decompressing after work.

  • My husband and I had a great weekday lunch here last week. We arrived just before the lunch crowd and sat ourselves at a small table in the bar section.

The service was good, our food arriving quickly, and although it's a little overpriced we were both very happy with what we ordered. It's a large portion and I loved my crabby patty, especially good with the pineapple relish it comes with.

And despite what many of the reviews say, I think the environment is fun.

  • The four of us went to the restaurant on Saturday night and had the tasting menu. The food was fantastic and the service was perfect. We were there for five hours for a seven course meal with wine pairing. The only complaint that anyone had was that the portions were too big!

  • This place rocks! I eat here all the time. The food is always great. The fish, etc is always fresh and cooked to order. The service is always great and you always get what you need. In the summer they have great outdoor seating on the water and in the winter they have a great pot-belly stove that heats the entire restaurant. Just a nice, cozy place to have a great meal. It's definitely worth the time to get down to the waterfront.

  • Order: lobster roll, steamer clams, crab legs, clam chowder, crab cakes
