What a great place for a quick, easy, inexpensive and delicious lunch in the financial district

great food, fast service and huge portions for the price! I took the sandwich back to work during a lunch break and had plenty of time.

The chicken salad sandwich here is one of the best I've ever had, and I eat them a lot! Lines are usually long around peak lunch hours, but servers are surprisingly quick and efficient. Sometimes they forget an ingredient but I'll forgive them... I highly recommend this place!

Greart fast and friendly service, great food. No where to sit and eat there but definetly worth a visit.

The date visited is misleading, I worked on State street for several years and Al's is the place to go to get a sandwich for a good price.
The small subs are 12 inches long and are, I believe, up from the $4 price to $4.75. Get the bag lunch or soup lunch anyway, it's a better deal. Every sandwich has been terrific. I love the Cafe Special - prosciutto, tomato, mozarrella & basil. You will find the meatball sub one of the best in Boston.

The bread is crusty french baguettes, and is made daily.

There is a hot and a cold sub line, those in the know will avoid the cold sub lines and jump right up to order a hot sub instead of waiting outside.

I love this place. Al is a Boston radio knucklehead and lots of the sandwiches have a radio sports show description. Al loves it too since he has put on about 40 lbs since opening the place in Boston.
