  • About 3 years ago (2005) we were in Lewes on our Honeymoon and while meandering through the quaint little town of historical sites and shopping we found The Rose and Crown. We stopped in for a drink before heading back out on our journey. Last month we returned to Lewes for vacation and while in town we noticed The Rose and Crown was replaced with a place called Jerry's Seafood. We ventured in and found the atmosphere and decor to be pretty much the same...clean, crisp, open with subtle nautical accents. We grabbed 2 seats, high back wooden bar stools and were immediately greeted by the bar tender. We ordered our drinks and looked over our menus. We had plans for dinner with friends later that night so we forced ourselves to stick with appetizers and not dive into the tempting dinner menu. I was torn mainly because they had something called the crab bomb that just sounded mouth watering. My husband ordered the crab balls and I ordered a bruschetta made with peppers, eggplant, goat cheese and balsamic vinegar. While we waited on our order we engaged in friendly conversation with our bartender, a local fellow who was willing to chat with us but without shirking his other duties or being obtrusive into any private conversations. The food came quickly and was presented beautifully on small white plates. We ordered another round of drinks and dug in. I was impressed by the blending of the flavors and textures in the bruschetta. It was a wonderful change from the traditional style. My husband was generous enough to allow me a bite of the crab but quickly cleaned his plate on his own. The crab balls consisted of large chunks of lump crab meat and little else. A slight tinge of old bay and just enough mayonnaise to bind it together gave it a wonderful creamy texture. We both agreed if the crab bomb was anything like this, which our bartender told us it was, it must have made for an excellent dinner choice. We definitely intend to visit Jerry's Seafood the next time we head down to the shores of Delaware.

  • Order: bruschetta (special), crab balls, beer, chardonnay
